Communication Studies Instructor Pool-Part-Time Position Details

  • Salary Range: $1,572.67 – $1,725.85 per lecture unit rate; $1,572.67 – $1,725.85 per lab parity unit rate; $1,258.16 – $1,380.60 per lab unit rate (per column)
  • Location: Cypress College, North Orange County Community College District
  • Work Schedule: Varies; part-time assignments on an as-needed basis
Requirements
  • Education: Master’s in speech, speech broadcasting, telecommunications, rhetoric, communication, communication studies, speech communication, or organizational communication; or Bachelor’s plus Master’s in drama/theater arts, mass communication, or English; or valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject area; or equivalent qualifications.
  • Transcript Verification: Official transcripts must be submitted; grade cards not accepted. All degrees must be verifiable on a legible transcript. Foreign degrees require evaluation.
  • Minimum References: One reference required.
  • Other: Official transcripts, verification of experience, work authorization, identification, fingerprints, medical certification as required. No visa sponsorship.

Desirable Qualifications
  • Recent lower‑division or community college teaching experience.
  • Ability to develop effective teaching techniques and assessment methods.
  • Ability to engage diverse learning styles and promote use of instructional technology.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience teaching and mentoring historically and socially marginalized communities.
Essential Functions

Part‑time instructors may be assigned to lecture and/or lab units on an as‑needed basis. Duties include teaching, developing course materials, assessing student work, and maintaining accurate records as directed by the department.
