Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in English, literature, comparative literature, or composition
  • Bachelor’s degree in any of the above
  • Master’s degree in linguistics, TESL, speech, education with a specialization in reading, creative writing or journalism, or the equivalent
  • Commitment to diversity – demonstrate sensitivity and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff
Special Requirements
  • Degree award must be verifiable on a legible transcript
  • Grade cards will not be accepted in lieu of transcripts
  • All degrees and coursework must be submitted from accredited postsecondary institutions
  • Evaluation of foreign degrees and/or coursework is required
  • Official transcripts and verification of experience prior to first duty day
  • Identification and employment eligibility as outlined in the Immigration Reform and Control Act
  • Fingerprints and required medical certification pursuant to statute
  • Reasonable accommodations may be requested by calling  at least three business days in advance of the scheduled interview
  • NOCCCD will not sponsor any visa applications
Desirable Qualifications
  • Recent lower division or community college teaching experience
  • Ability to develop a variety of effective teaching techniques and assessment methods
  • Ability to engage student interest to support a variety of learning styles
  • Ability to promote the use of instructional technology in curriculum delivery
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Experience teaching and mentoring historically and socially minoritized/marginalized communities (including African-American/Black, Chicanx/Latinx, Pacific Islander, Native American, women, LGBTQIA+, people with disabilities)
