- Master’s degree in English, literature, comparative literature, or composition
- Bachelor’s degree in any of the above
- Master’s degree in linguistics, TESL, speech, education with a specialization in reading, creative writing or journalism, or the equivalent
- Commitment to diversity – demonstrate sensitivity and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff
- Degree award must be verifiable on a legible transcript
- Grade cards will not be accepted in lieu of transcripts
- All degrees and coursework must be submitted from accredited postsecondary institutions
- Evaluation of foreign degrees and/or coursework is required
- Official transcripts and verification of experience prior to first duty day
- Identification and employment eligibility as outlined in the Immigration Reform and Control Act
- Fingerprints and required medical certification pursuant to statute
- Reasonable accommodations may be requested by calling at least three business days in advance of the scheduled interview
- NOCCCD will not sponsor any visa applications
- Recent lower division or community college teaching experience
- Ability to develop a variety of effective teaching techniques and assessment methods
- Ability to engage student interest to support a variety of learning styles
- Ability to promote the use of instructional technology in curriculum delivery
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Experience teaching and mentoring historically and socially minoritized/marginalized communities (including African-American/Black, Chicanx/Latinx, Pacific Islander, Native American, women, LGBTQIA+, people with disabilities)
