Raymond West is looking for a Principal Project Engineer to join our team. The Principal Project Engineer will support the development of complex integrated solution proposals as a subject matter expert through award, execution, and after installation management. The role defines workflows, jobs, and reporting relationships to obtain optimum effectiveness. This position may evaluate and recommend changes in methods or procedures within its area of responsibility, identify resource needs, troubleshoot and resolve complex problems, and be responsible for overall success of function or project.

Duties and ResponsibilitiesPrimary duties and responsibilities will vary with the specific position. Typical responsibilities are listed below; this list is not inclusive.
- Materials Handling Systems Application Knowledge
- Substantial and extensive experience planning, managing, and executing complex material handling systems
- Understanding of the dynamic handling characteristics, constraints and risks associated with a wide range of materials handled within a complex system, including AGVs, conveyors, ASRS, and robotics
- Knowledge of constraints and methods for defining and demonstrating equipment, subsystem, and system performance criteria
- Understanding of various controls architectures, related controls levels, and functionality of control domains, including WMS and WCS integration
- Knowledge of the responsibilities and impact of project execution when interfacing with general contractors, construction managers, or owners
- Planning, monitoring, controlling: identify and develop proper team skills required for successful implementation of mechanical, controls, software, and installation subsystems
- Develop detailed project schedules, including all in‑scope engineering, installation, and integration activities and out‑of‑scope milestones, using MS Project
- Develop, define, and execute acceptance test plans covering physical, functional, rate, and availability testing
- Knowledge of third‑party procurement, including development of RFPs/RFQs, bid review, assessment, and contract award in cooperation with purchasing
- Execute general processes associated with change control, approvals, and information exchange among multiple stakeholders and subcontractors
- Coordinate execution of activities by internal and contractor resources, recognising early issues requiring corrective action that impact timely execution
- Mitigate scope, schedule, and cost concerns both internally and with customers
- Coordinate on‑site activities involving multiple contractors competing for same space and time windows
- Interface with local code requirements, including seismic, fire, and ADA
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational and time‑management skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and similar software
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees
- Maintain effective working relationships with employees and managers in other departments
- Willingness to work off‑hours as needed and assume additional responsibilities
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Project
- Design and layout skills for rack systems (Selective, Deep Reach, Push Back, Cantilever, Pallet Flow, Carton Flow, Shelving) and related products (Mezzanine, Wire Guidance, ASRS, AGV, robots, conveyor)
- Experience in sales, support engineering, and contract preparation/administration
- Ability to scale and completely take off of existing facilities as requested by Management
- Present a mature, responsible appearance
- Perform duties with minimal supervision while responding to rapidly varying requirements
- Demonstrate initiative, maintain records of activities, and drive results
