Senior Electrical Compliance Engineer UL / CSA / CE Certification - Industrial Power Systems
As our products scale globally, we are seeking an experienced Electrical Compliance Engineer to lead certification and regulatory compliance for our power generation systems.

Position OverviewThe Senior Electrical Compliance Engineer will lead certification strategy and electrical safety compliance for Sapphire’s turboexpander generator systems and associated power electronics.
This role will work closely with engineering teams to ensure products meet North American and international regulatory requirements, including UL, CSA, and CE marking, and will coordinate certification activities with testing laboratories such as UL, TÜV, CSA, Intertek, etc.
The ideal candidate shall have deep experience certifying industrial electrical equipment, power conversion systems, or distributed generation systems.
Key Responsibilities- Define certification strategies with timelines and milestones for new and existing products.
- Identify applicable safety and regulatory standards early in the design process.
- Develop certification plans, gap-analysis, schedules, traceability, and required testing programs and reports
Interpret and ensure compliance with relevant global standards including:
IEEE 1547 – IEEE standard for interconnection and interoperability of distributed energy resources and associated electrical power system interfaces
North America- UL 1741 – Inverters and Distributed Energy Resources
- UL 508A / UL 508C – Industrial control panels and power conversion equipment
- UL 1004 – Electric motors and generators
- NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code)
- UL1998 (Standard for Safety: Software in Programmable Components.)
- CE Marking requirements
- Low Voltage Directive (LVD)
- Machinery Directive
- EMC Directive
- Applicable IEC / EN standards
- CSA electrical safety standards
- Review electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, embedded firmware, and system architecture for required standards
- Evaluate creepage and clearance distances per required standards and implement design changes to comply with the requirements
- Assess insulation systems and grounding strategies.
- Verify protective features including fault protection, overcurrent protection, thermal protection, and safe shutdown.
- Ensure compliance with electrical safety and machinery safety requirements.
- Support EMC design and mitigation strategies.
- Coordinate EMC pre-compliance testing.
- Ensure compliance with EN / IEC EMC requirements.
- Coordinate certification testing with NRTLs and international certification bodies.
- Develop and manage certification test plans.
- Support electrical safety, EMC, and environmental testing programs.
- Resolve certification findings and implement design changes where required.
Prepare and maintain certification documentation including:
- CE technical files
- Risk assessments and hazard analyses
- Declarations of conformity
- Certification reports
- Product labeling and safety documentation
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and ability required.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 8+ years experience in regulatory compliance or product certification.
- Strong knowledge of UL, CSA, IEC, and EN electrical safety standards.
- Experience certifying industrial electrical equipment or power electronics.
- Experience working directly with UL, TÜV, CSA, or Intertek or NTRL
- Ability to review electrical designs for safety compliance.
- Certification of grid-connected power systems.
- Experience with inverters, generators, or power conversion equipment.
- Experience with EMC testing and mitigation.
- Familiarity with Machinery Directive compliance.
- Experience with industrial rotating machinery or generators.
- Experience with distributed energy or renewable power systems.
