Position: New Arrival Center (NAC) Curriculum Coach

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from a recognized, accredited college or university, with additional graduate study or a Master’s degree preferred;
  • Valid Texas teacher’s certificate with an ESL Endorsement;
  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful experience as an ESL teacher; "Newcomer" experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated skill in leading, motivating, coaching and cooperating with other teachers;
  • Successful experience with at-risk students and flexible regrouping language arts;
  • Communication skills in Spanish or other languages preferred

Essential Functions
  • To work with Director of Curriculum and Instruction for Special Populations to support the New Arrival Center (NAC) in accelerating the acquisition of the English language.
  • To supervise the placement of all students in the NAC.
  • To assist teachers in the NAC with implementing the Language Acquisition Curriculum.
  • To track the progress of current and former NAC students.
  • To monitor the NAC with data analysis.
  • To mentor and observe NAC teachers and provide feedback.
  • To model lessons in the classroom.
  • To provide on-going staff development training and assistance to NAC teachers in the implementation of instructional strategies in the classroom.
  • To provide new NAC teacher and paraprofessional training.
  • To work with Director of Curriculum and Instruction for Special Populations on curriculum development.
  • To work on assessment instruments for the NAC.
  • To assist Director and Coordinators on staff development days.
  • To work with ESL contacts to provide and coordinate materials.
  • To assist with the implementation and supervision of summer school programs.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.
Working Conditions

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
