- Master's degree or higher from a recognized, accredited college or university;
- Appropriate administrative certification;
- Valid certification as a special education teacher;
- Demonstrated successful experience in working with special needs students preferred;
- Three (3) years of successful experience as a special education teacher preferred.

Essential Functions- Work cooperatively with the curriculum department members in developing and supervising instructional programs.
- Work cooperatively with the curriculum department members and special education coaches to implement and support accommodations, modifications, and assessments.
- Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data), to examine curriculum and instruction program effectiveness.
- Monitor student performance for state and federal accountability and collaborate with campuses to support students with disabilities.
- Provide staff development for teachers in the areas of Standards Based IEP development, classroom management, data collection, accommodations, and modifications.
- Observe classroom instruction and provide feedback and assistance to classroom teachers to facilitate improvement and innovation.
- Assist in the selection, location, and/or purchase of appropriate instructional/diagnostic materials for use with students with disabilities.
- Work closely with the other secondary special education coordinators and coaches to monitor curriculum implementation.
- Serve as chairperson for multi-campus IEP meetings.
- Keep abreast of current trends, laws, and regulations governing special education.
- Participate in staffing and IEP meetings as needed.
- Observe personnel in the performance of their duties and provide feedback in the effort to improve job performance, as requested by campuses.
- Assist in the recruitment and selection of personnel, as requested.
- Provide in-service, staff development and consultation of special and general education personnel dealing with students with disabilities.
- Provide assistance with scheduling personnel or programs as needed.
- Collaborate with general education personnel to ensure that the students receiving special education services have access to the general education curriculum.
- Prepare and monitor the Special Education Resource/In-Class Support Budget (Federal and Local).
- Regular collaboration and problem solving with campuses as needs arise.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent for Educational Support Services and/or the Director of Instructional Services and Support.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals, prolonged sitting, occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting, repetitive hand motions and frequent keyboarding and use of a mouse.
Lifting:
Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).
Environment:
Frequent district-wide travel.

Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress.
