Summary

Christ the Redeemer Catholic School seeks a responsible, energetic and nurturing individual with experience in early childhood education. Kindergarten teacher aides support teachers in leading a Kindergarten program, adapting classroom activities to reinforce goals and objectives, assisting with lessons, assignments, behaviour management, and personal needs such as toileting and washing for children aged 3-5.

Job Hours

7:30 AM – 3:30 PM (additional hours may be added for meetings, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Four‑year B.A./B.S. degree
  • State teacher certification in appropriate grade level
  • Three years teaching experience; early childhood experience preferred
  • Catechist certification
  • Safe Haven training
Essential Functions
  • Assist lead teachers in planning, developing and implementing age‑appropriate curriculum.
  • Provide support to teachers in devising and imparting daily lesson plans.
  • Set up interest centres and prepare instructional material such as flashcards and cutouts.
  • Supervise students within the classroom and during recreational activities.
  • Provide an environment of comfort and security for young students through nurturing behaviour.
  • Distribute and collect workbooks and worksheets and assist students with their assignments.
  • Guide independent study and handle remedial work activities.
  • Assist students during lunchtime, toileting and washing activities.
  • Enforce cleanup activities after lunchtime by modelling appropriate behaviour.
  • Observe students for behavioural changes and report findings to lead teacher.
  • Assist lead teacher in evaluating students and recording assessments.
  • Supervise students during field trips to ensure their safety and wellbeing.
  • Organise and supervise physical education programmes during school time.
  • Handle student record‑keeping, filing and photocopying activities.
  • Supervise and impart instruction to students in absence of the class teacher.
  • Provide one‑on‑one support to young students, e.g., helping them write their names or learn initial counting.

  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organise and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents in person.
  • Ability to engage in self‑evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
Physical Requirements
  • Stand for long periods of time
  • Walk long distances across campus and within the classroom
  • Use hands to handle and manipulate teaching tools (technology, textbooks, student work, chalkboard/whiteboard)

  • Sit for periods of time in chairs and floor

Additional Job Functions
  • Maintain classroom order and behavioural management to ensure safety.
  • Participate in curriculum and staff development programmes within the school and/or district level and in activities provided by the school.
  • Attend all in‑service days required.
