Position: Behavior Support Specialist, 2026-2027 School Year
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree from a recognized, accredited college or university;
    Master's degree preferred;
  • Texas teacher certification in elementary or secondary education and special education; administrator certification preferred;
  • Minimum of four (4) years of successful experience as a certified special education teacher;
  • Successful experience designing and implementing behavioral interventions based on the functions of behavior;
  • Successful experience working with students with autism spectrum disorders;
  • Demonstrated skill in leading, motivating, coaching and consulting with others;
  • Demonstrated skills in collaborating with parents and agency representatives regarding school-home behavioral programming;
  • Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners;
  • Certified in nonviolent crisis intervention procedures and certified as a trainer or willingness to become a certified trainer;
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Visionary leadership to work with faculties, families and communities of the 21st century;
  • Ability to work flexible hours and to maintain a flexible schedule.
  • Must be willing to obtain and maintain a current automated external defibrillator (AED) and CPR certificate.

    SALARY:

    $66,627/IA-3

    Salary Range (based on experience) as set by the Board of Trustees for the school year.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Train and work with teachers and campus personnel to design, develop and implement behavioral intervention plans and classroom management strategies for students with significant disabilities and behavioral challenges.
  • Train staff in approved nonviolent crisis intervention procedures and monitor implementation of these procedures.
  • Compile and maintain all physical and computerized reports, records and other documents as required.
  • Work collaboratively with parents and other stakeholders to ensure success in meeting students' Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals.
  • Observe students in school, home and community environments and consult with school staff and parents to teach socially acceptable behaviors to students based on individual needs.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule and the local board.
  • Assist with the coordination of the discipline management program.
  • Assist with the coordination of the campus emergency operations plan, including coordination of required crisis drills.
  • Assist in assignment of classroom personnel to ensure adequate staffing to meet the instructional and behavioral programming needs of the students.
  • Remain abreast of research and best practices for behavioral intervention for students with autism spectrum disorders.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Director/Principal.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS:

    Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

    Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours.

    Physical Demands: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling

    and twisting.

    Lifting: Regular lifting and carrying; may lift and move stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks,

    and other classroom equipment.

    Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment;
    Must be

    willing to obtain and maintain a current automated external defibrillator (AED) and CPR certificate.

    Environment: Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise.
