Position: Store 6930 Cypress, TX Emerging Store Manager - SC

Position Summary

This developmental leadership role prepares associates for potential Store Manager opportunities within the Walmart U.S. The Emerging Store Manager (ESM) will train and develop across many areas of store operations, including merchandising, people leadership, financial management, customer experience, and community engagement. The assignment is expected to last no longer than 12 to 18 months, and successful completion may lead to a Store Manager position.

Associates are expected to maintain mobility within their assigned region for application and placement, and may perform additional job‑related responsibilities as required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Train and develop associates in retail operational acumen, people leadership, merchandising strategy, financial management, customer experience, and community engagement to prepare for a Store Manager role.
  • Assist in managing the store’s financial performance by authorizing and managing expenditures against budget, monitoring sales and profit goals, analyzing economic trends, forecasting budgets, and reviewing business reports and profit‑and‑loss statements.
  • Ensure effective merchandise presentation, accurate pricing, proper signage, and appropriate in‑stock and inventory levels.
  • Provide direction and guidance to hourly associates and managers on customer service approaches to ensure needs, complaints, and issues are resolved within company guidelines and standards.
  • Assist with projected staffing plans, implement talent pipelines, and support succession planning processes.
  • Initiate, direct, and participate in community outreach programs, establish relationships with key individuals or groups, and promote company‑sponsored programs, events, and sustainability efforts.
  • Uphold the Open Door Policy by meeting with associates, researching concerns, and providing resolutions according to company policies and procedures.
  • Support the store’s management team by establishing objectives, communicating goals, monitoring performance, providing feedback, and identifying training and development needs.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, hold associates and managers accountable, interpret reports, and implement asset protection and safety controls.
  • Develop and implement action plans to correct deficiencies and support the execution of multiple business plans and projects, remove barriers, measure progress, and adjust performance accordingly.
  • Effectively facilitate partnerships and relationships with key stakeholders across the organization, including Market Managers, Regional leadership, Merchandising, Human Resources, and Asset Protection.
  • Maintain readiness to complete the ESM program within 12 to 18 months, with the potential for placement into other roles if a Store Manager position is not secured within that timeframe.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in management, business administration, retail management, or financial management and 2 years’ experience in a management role within a retail, operations, or distribution environment, with responsibility for supervising, evaluating, mentoring, and developing managers/supervisors, managing workloads, and participating in hiring and promotion of employees; OR 4 years’ experience in such a role.
  • 2 years of general management experience, including responsibility for financial accountability.
  • For facilities that sell firearms, successful completion of a firearms‑specific Criminal Background Check (CBC) and Firearms Authorized Training.
  • For facilities that sell only ammunition and have state‑specific requirements, successful completion of a current state‑issued Certificate of Eligibility.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree or training in business leadership through Live Better U or a similar program.
  • Experience as a Walmart Assistant Manager, Coach, or Store Lead with demonstrated readiness for increased scope and responsibility.
  • Experience running a fresh, dry grocery, or general merchandise area.
  • Supervising 50 or more associates/employees, including performance management, mentoring, and employment decisions such as hiring and disciplinary actions.
