Title: Director of Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS)

Status: Exempt/Direct Hire | Full-Time

Compensation: $120,000 - $150,000 Base Salary + Annual Bonus

Location: Greater Houston, TX (Onsite)

Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Director of Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) to lead and continuously improve a company-wide safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance program across multiple operational facilities, fleet operations, terminals, maintenance shops, warehouses, and field personnel.

This is a highly visible leadership position requiring an individual who can balance strategic planning with a hands-on, field-oriented management style. The successful candidate will partner closely with executive leadership and operations to strengthen safety culture, improve regulatory compliance, reduce organizational risk, and implement sustainable environmental, health & safety initiatives that support continued operational growth.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop the organization's Environmental, Health & Safety program while establishing policies, procedures, performance expectations, and long-term strategic initiatives.
  • Build, mentor, and develop high-performing EHS personnel while driving accountability and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain EHS programs ensuring compliance with OSHA, DOT, EPA, USCG, state, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct facility inspections, field audits, fleet safety evaluations, environmental compliance assessments, and operational risk reviews across multiple locations.
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, corrective action plans, regulatory reporting, and documentation to minimize future risk and improve operational performance.
  • Develop and deliver company-wide safety training, toolbox talks, leadership coaching, emergency response training, and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Monitor safety metrics, audit findings, environmental performance, training completion, and compliance trends while providing meaningful reporting to executive leadership.
  • Oversee environmental compliance programs including hazardous materials handling, hazardous waste management, fuel storage systems, spill prevention (SPCC), emissions compliance, permitting, and emergency preparedness.
  • Partner closely with Operations, Fleet, Maintenance, Human Resources, Insurance, Legal, and executive leadership to strengthen safety culture and operational execution.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing risk, improving compliance, enhancing operational efficiency, and supporting long-term organizational growth.
Required Qualifications
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing Environmental, Health & Safety programs within transportation, logistics, industrial manufacturing, construction, energy, chemical processing, petroleum, hazardous materials, or other operational environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations, DOT hazardous materials transportation requirements, environmental compliance programs, and regulatory reporting.
  • Experience conducting field inspections, regulatory audits, incident investigations, root cause analyses, safety training, and corrective action implementation.
  • Proven ability to lead organizational change, develop teams, build employee engagement, and establish a proactive safety culture.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and project management skills with the ability to influence employees at all organizational levels.
  • Experience working directly with regulatory agencies, insurance carriers, legal teams, and executive leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Professional certifications such as CSP, ASP, CDS, CHMM, or other applicable Environmental, Health & Safety credentials.
  • Experience supporting multi-site operations with responsibility for fleet safety, terminal operations, maintenance facilities, hazardous materials, emergency response, and environmental compliance.
  • Working knowledge of petroleum storage systems, spill prevention programs, emissions compliance, air permitting, and state environmental regulations.
  • Demonstrated success implementing scalable EHS programs, improving safety performance metrics, and driving continuous improvement initiatives across complex operational environments.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Director of Safety (CDS) or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Formal education (Bachelor's degree preferred) in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Additional certifications such as CSP, ASP, CHMM, or TCEQ-related credentials are a plus.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to operate in both office and field environments as needed
