Summary
CYP Assistants work directly with children and youth, keeping them actively engaged, well‑cared for, and safe while participating in the CYP. The CYP Assistant's day includes helping children develop social skills such as making friends and conflict resolution; making healthy choices; building self‑help and school readiness skills; and exploring the environment around them.

- Develop schedules and activity plans; review and provide input into plans developed by CY Program Assistants.
- Ensure program plans meet observed needs of individual children and youth.
- Implement activities and special events that meet physical, social, emotional, and cognitive needs; incorporate special instructions such as dietary or physical needs.
- Prepare and implement program options for children and youth with special requirements; care for special‑needs children as directed.
- Demonstrate, instruct, lead, and facilitate planned and spontaneous program activities.
- Model developmentally appropriate practice and classroom management techniques.
- Promote and model safety, fitness, health, nutrition practices.
- Help arrange or serve appropriate snacks or meals.
- Prepare and maintain indoor and outdoor activity areas and materials.
- Set up displays and bulletin boards.
- Inventory equipment and recommend replenishment.
- Secure supplies, equipment, facilities.
- Establish program environment that sustains interest and promotes positive interactions.
- Interact with children using approved child guidance techniques.
- Provide care and supervision, oversight, and accountability for participants in compliance with DoD/NAF policies.
- Maintain control and safety of children and youth.
- Supervise during activities, field trips, special events.
- Ensure authorized departure per written instructions.
- Observe for signs of illness, abuse, neglect; report as directed; mandatory reporter to Family Advocacy and CPS.
- Interact professionally with employees, parents, installation personnel.
- Provide parents with daily feedback; participate in conferences.
- Document developmental progression and concerns; use information for planning.
- Participate in program evaluation.
- Assist in maintaining DoD certification and accreditation.
- Ensure compliance with laws, policies, regulations; notify supervisor of concerns.
- Collect, maintain, report participation data.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Complete required training certificates; maintain certifications or credentials required by federal, state, or national institutions.
- Pass all applicable records and background checks.
- Undergo pre‑employment and random drug testing; positive test leads to removal.
- Pass a pre‑employment physical; provide immunization evidence; be free of communicable diseases.
- Employment contingent upon proof of education if not provided at application.
- Marijuana is illegal under federal law; positive drug test for marijuana results in withdrawal of offer and ineligibility for 6 months.
- This is a Test Designated Position (TDP); subject to pre‑employment and random drug testing.
