Position: ENGINEER with Security Clearance

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an Engineer on the Electrical Engineering (EE) team for the Battle Management System (BMS) family of projects in the Weapon Control Hardware Branch (Code H42) of the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division.
  • Apply robust Electrical Engineering processes, working closely with the dynamic engineering team already established in Code H42.
  • Design custom printed circuit boards using ARM based microcontrollers.
  • Complete full schematic capture and PCB layout design.
  • Design harnesses and cabling between the circuit cards and external interfaces.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and initial circuit‑board start‑up of new designs.
  • Collaborate with the Mechanical Engineering, Embedded Software, and Quality Assurance teams.
  • Create engineering documentation for Technical Design Packages to include fabrication and assembly instructions.
  • Assess operational performance criteria and provide input for improving performance.
  • Develop status reports, progress and performance results both orally and in writing.
  • Actively participate and contribute to the Electrical Engineering Team and Hardware Team meetings.

  • Position may require travel to CONUS and OCONUS, including military and commercial aircraft for extended periods.
Qualifications
  • May be filled by a General Engineer (0801), Electrical Engineer (0850), Computer Engineer (0854), or Electronics Engineer (0855). Applicants must apply to the series most applicable to their qualifications.
  • Resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the ND‑3 pay band (GS‑9 through GS‑11) in the federal service or equivalent private/public sector experience.
  • Specialized experience must include: professional engineer experience in circuit board design and development; proficiency in designing electrical schematics and layouts of a printed circuit board; experience using software tools to simulate electrical circuits.
  • Volunteer work that demonstrates competency, knowledge, skills, and training directly transferable to paid employment is accepted.
Education
  • Successful completion of a professional engineering degree (bachelor or higher) from an ABET‑accredited engineering program or a program meeting specified coursework requirements.
  • OR current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any U.S. state, District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
  • OR evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.
  • OR successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences including the required courses.
  • OR successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field with at least one year of professional engineering experience.
