Job SummaryThe Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for leading systems engineering activities related to Department of Defense (DoD) systems architecture, research, design, development, integration, and test and evaluation. This role provides technical expertise in the development of complex systems and ensures that system requirements, architecture, and engineering processes are properly defined and executed. The Senior Systems Engineer supports system lifecycle activities including requirements development, risk management, architecture development, and verification planning.
The position also contributes to strategic planning, technical documentation, and engineering analysis to support mission and program objectives, including work related to maritime, missile, launcher, and weapons control systems where applicable.
- Perform systems engineering activities supporting the architecture, research, design, development, integration, and test and evaluation of DoD systems.
- Develop and maintain system architectures that ensure portability, scalability, and interoperability across systems and platforms.
- Develop and manage system requirements, including traceability, verification, and validation processes.
- Utilize systems engineering and architecture tools such as CORE, Rhapsody, Magic Draw, DOORS, Requisite Pro, OPNET, NETWARS, Caliber
RM, and executable UML to support system development. - Develop DoD Architectural Framework (DoDAF) products including Operational Views (OV) and Operational Sequence Diagrams (OSD).
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation including Technical Data Packages (TDPs), system specifications, design requirements, Systems Engineering Plans (SEPs), and test and evaluation documentation.
- Support development of Concept of Operations (CONOPS), interface diagrams, system architectures, and test matrices.
- Participate in system engineering events and provide technical input for program reviews and decision‐making processes.
- Conduct technical analysis and develop recommendations to support system design and implementation decisions.
- Provide engineering support for risk management, system integration, and lifecycle engineering activities.
- Prepare technical reports and support technical briefings and presentations for stakeholders and leadership.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Operations Research, or Computer Science, or in an engineering, scientific, or technical discipline.
- Experience with Naval Surface Warfare Center / DoD Test and Evaluation support preferred.
- Ten (10) years professional technical experience including at least five (5) years specialized experience in the areas of maritime, launcher, missile, weapon, or weapon control systems concept definition, design, integration, and engineering.
- Specialized experience also includes systems requirements management, systems engineering design, utilization of systems engineering software tools, and systems engineering processes.
- Strong knowledge of DoD systems engineering principles, architecture frameworks, and lifecycle processes.
- Expertise in systems architecture development and requirements engineering.
- Proficiency with systems engineering and requirements management tools such as CORE, Magic Draw, DOORS, Rhapsody, or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with DoD Architectural Framework (DoDAF) products and development of operational views and sequence diagrams.
- Ability to develop technical documentation and engineering plans including SEPs, TDPs, and test and evaluation documentation.
- Knowledge of requirements traceability, verification, and validation methodologies.
- Ability to perform technical analysis, risk assessment, and system integration planning.
- Strong technical writing skills and ability to produce technical reports and engineering documentation.
- Ability to justify technical recommendations and support technical positions with sound engineering analysis.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with engineering teams, program managers, and stakeholders.
The projected salary range for this position is $,000 and is based on experience and contractual requirements. However, this is not a guarantee of salary.
