The Engineer, Journeyman at the Potomac River Test Range (PRTR) is typically involved in a range of tasks and responsibilities, which can vary depending on the specific industry and company. The role requires independently evaluating, selecting, adapting, and modifying standard techniques and criteria to plan and conduct engineering assignments. These responsibilities demand a combination of technical expertise, problem‑solving skills, and a collaborative mindset, essential in fields such as IT, engineering, and construction to deliver high‑quality projects and services.

• Applies engineering principles, codes, and practices to support the RDT&E of weapons systems.
• Performs engineering tasks involving disciplines such as control systems, electronics, power, instrumentation, signal processing, radio‑frequency, mechanical, and aerospace.
• Applies aerospace engineering principles and concepts in the test and evaluation of projectiles (guided and unguided).
• Coordinates with Data Acquisition Engineers to define instrumentation and measurement requirements for data collection and analysis during test planning.
• Assists with the planning for and management of classified requirements and data collected above the Secret level.
• Performs project work through knowledge of engineering practices and policies, devising new approaches to resolve problems.
• Opens and operates with general instructions in an independent mode, receiving guidance only for special problems or when requested.
• Evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, making minor adaptations and modifications.
• Provides independent and professional support on portions of complex projects.
• Reviews assignment objectives, approaches, and potential solutions for accuracy and completeness.
• Performs complex project assignments guided by codes, standards, and precedents of the discipline.
• Analyzes and evaluates results of analyses using techniques prescribed by senior engineers or supervisors.
• Accomplishes tasks that require investigation of many variables.
• Exhibits proficiency in software development, hardware integration, and system design.
• Solves engineering problems and manages solutions effectively.
• Works with team members and other professionals to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
• Creates technical reports and documentation to communicate project progress and outcomes.
• Engages in ongoing education and training to stay updated with industry trends and technologies.
• Other duties as assigned.

• A Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from an accredited college or university in an engineering, scientific, or technical discipline.
• Three (3) years of experience in the design, engineering, test, and evaluation of weapon systems components, subsystems, and systems.
• Solid foundation in the principles and practices of aerospace, mechanical, electrical, computer, or systems engineering.
• Strong understanding of T&E methodologies and techniques.
• Demonstrated ability to use test equipment and data analysis tools.
• Demonstrated communication and teamwork skills, essential for success in a T&E team environment.
• Proven ability to think critically and solve complex problems within the T&E process.

• Navy and/or Marine Corps related experience.
• Experience with specific weapons systems or T&E programs.

• Work performed in an environmentally controlled office environment.
• Capable of sitting and entering data on a computer keyboard for extended periods of time.
• Capable of viewing a computer monitor for extended periods of time.
• Capable of lifting 25 lbs. unassisted.
