Position: HOUSEKEEPING ATTENDANT

Job Summary

Regularly performs the full range and scope of housekeeping services at a Navy Gateway Inn and Suites and/or Navy Lodge property, including cleaning guest rooms, interior public spaces, storage areas, laundry rooms, and exterior spaces. Responsibilities include vacuuming, mopping, dusting, scrubbing, washing, moving items, polishing, cleaning debris/trash, and transporting clean and dirty linen and towels, using hand and powered cleaning equipment as required.

  • Clean guest rooms and other assigned areas, operating cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, carpet cleaners, waxers, and polishers. Empty wastebaskets, dust, wax, and polish room furniture; wash walls, partitions, air vents, disinfect and deodorize toilets and lavatories.
  • Wash and replace window treatments, clean ceiling fixtures, change light bulbs and room partitions using ladders and scaffolds. Move furniture as needed and use step stools to clean windows, cabinet tops, mirrors, and picture frames. Clean bathroom areas (tub, tile, walls, commode, floors, and vanity); clean kitchen areas (stove, oven, microwave, refrigerator, cabinets, and floor).
  • Wash and disinfect dishes, utensils, and cookware. Clean and ensure the functionality of ironing boards, luggage racks, and closet hangers. Ensure TVs, alarm clocks, and in‑room phones are clean, programmed, and operational.
  • Place appropriate amenities, remove and replace bed linen, inspect mattresses and pull‑out sofas. Move and reposition beds after guest checkout, weekly, or per guest request.
  • Greet and welcome guests, maintain outstanding guest relations, and ensure privacy and security at all times.
  • Clean, vacuum, and mop corridors, stairways, laundry, patios, and balconies. Shampoo rugs and carpets; polish stair rails; complete scheduled carpet cleaning with industrial equipment.
  • Perform deep cleaning per program standards, including rooms with pets or ADA service animals: defrost refrigerators, clean windows inside and out, shampoo carpets, and clean walls.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order of storage rooms and exterior spaces such as parking lots and walkways.
  • Communicate room status to supervisors via daily assignment or property management system; report minor repairs and equipment maintenance, returning all keys at shift end.
  • Load/unload trucks and assist with receipt of supplies, assembly, separation, storage, and delivery of merchandise. Use hand trucks and tools such as hammers, pliers, box cutters, crowbars, and shears.
  • Report unusual circumstances (missing luggage, unauthorized pets, lost items, etc.) immediately to supervisors.
  • Set up, breakdown, and clean the complimentary self‑service breakfast bar; assist with preparing, heating, displaying, and replenishing breakfast items. Ensure the area is returned to its original state and free of leftover food by breakfast hour end. Obtain required food handling certifications.
  • Complete all required safety and security training; maintain a clean and safe environment; apply blood‑borne pathogen safety measures; follow NHG protocols.
  • Perform laundry operations and maintain knowledge of driver’s license requirements to travel to other lodging facilities as needed.
  • Obtain NHG housekeeping certification within six months of employment, along with other required certifications.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent preferred. No experience required.

Physical Requirements

Moderate physical effort moving furniture and use of hand or lightweight powered cleaning equipment.
