Job SummaryThe Janitor maintains the building by providing custodial services. The Janitor reports to the Lead Worker with support from the Assistant Project Manager, and cares for the facilities. Maintaining these responsibilities will help to ensure the health, safety and security of the public. Successfully obtain an interim and full DoD Secret Clearance.

- Maintain building interior by dusting and polishing furniture, equipment, mirrors, and fixtures; wash windows, counters, walls, ceilings, and woodwork; sweep, scrub, clean and vacuum carpet, furniture; resupply soap and paper products in rest rooms and other amenities.
- Maintain building accessibility and appearance by picking up papers and trash.
- Remove trash by emptying trash containers, transport materials to disposal area, and collect recycling materials.
- Keep equipment operational by following the Lead Worker’s operating and care guidelines, completing operator repairs and parts replacement.
- Perform cleaning based on cleaning frequencies and schedules unless otherwise requested by supervisor and report back to supervisor any refusals of services or access that impact cleaning frequencies and schedules.
- Maintain a safe working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Work closely and communicate positively and professionally with all co-workers, lead workers and management.
- Maintain continuity between shifts by documenting cleaning actions, noting areas requiring additional care or monitoring.
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Education, Experience, and Certification(s)
- Must be able to pass and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance required.
- High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) preferred.
- At least one (1) year custodial experience preferred.
- Knowledge of standard cleaning procedures, chemicals, products, and equipment preferred.
- Knowledge of the use of Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) preferred.
- Ability to read and understand labels and instructions, particularly on the use and application of chemicals and products preferred.
- Team building preferred.
- Decision making skills preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The incumbent is frequently required use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects tools or controls.
The incumbent must spend the entire time at work standing, walking, swooping, kneeling, lifting heavy objects, operating medium-weight cleaning equipment such as floor buffers, sweeping and mopping floors and moving desks and furniture. The incumbent is required to do a great deal of stretching and bending, often in awkward positions.
