Job Title
The incumbent will perform a variety of instructional assignments and tasks designed to develop knowledge of and skill in produce department operations.
Example of work assignments include, but are not limited to:
- Participates in stocking produce department merchandise learning to identify and distinguish among all types of fruits and vegetable products.
- Learn display methods, storage locations and temperature requirements, rotation processes, and restocking procedures.
- Participates in maintaining security, verifying accuracy of receiving documents, visually inspects merchandise, take temperature of delivery truck advice supervisor if there is a problem.
- Participates in maintaining adequate quantities, quality and wholesomeness, proper pricing and signage, and availability of commissary product.
- Becomes familiar with and utilizes a variety of DeCA information business systems to understand store operations and to perform tasks which affect operations.
- Participates in validating and processing documents and reports related to orders, receipts, sales, vendor credits, and price changes.
- Learn and practices all food safety, sanitation, handling, and processing regulations and all safety regulations and processes associated with the operation of commissary machinery.
- Participates in conducting inventories, verifying inventory quantities, and maintaining records of orders, receipts, sales, and other operational data.
- Greets customers and handles complaints concerning produce. Explains product location and availability.
Work conditions:
- Most of the work is performed in the store display area, which is well lighted and maintained at a comfortable temperature.
- Aisles are often crowded with customers and grocery carts.
- When working in the storage or receiving area, may be exposed to hot or cold weather, or damp or drafty conditions.
- May be exposed to differences in temperature when storing items in or retrieving them from chill or frozen storage rooms.
- There is a danger of minor injuries such as cuts, scrapes, bruises, and slipping on wet floors.
