- Call, Maintenance & Repair Worker I to join our team in Dahlgren, VA in support of our NSWC Dahlgren Facilities Maintenance Support contract. The Maintenance & Repair Worker, General I is responsible for general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings. They require skills and knowledge in trades such as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry and electrical work and will keep the Supervisor apprised of unique situations and problems encountered.
This technician performs simple routine tasks under close supervision or from detailed procedures. Work is checked in progress or on completion.
This position is ideal for individuals looking for flexible, as-needed work. The selected candidate will be called upon to assist during periods of increased workload, special projects, and maintenance surges. An upcoming project beginning in
** late August through early September
** is expected to require one to two weeks of full-time support, with additional on-call opportunities available throughout the year as workload demands.
** Responsibilities*
* The Maintenance & Repair Worker performs general maintenance, repair, and minor construction tasks involving government facilities and equipment. The successful candidate should possess work knowledge and experience in one or more of the following trades:
+ Carpentry
+ Painting
+ Plumbing
+ Masonry
+ Electrical repair
+ General building maintenance
Responsibilities include performing routine maintenance and repair tasks, assisting with facility improvement projects, maintaining a safe work environment, and notifying the Supervisor of any unusual conditions or problems encountered during assigned work. Work is performed under the direction of the Supervisor and may involve following established procedures or detailed work instructions. Assignments are reviewed during progress and upon completion to ensure quality and compliance with contract requirements.
Job duties include but are not limited to:
+ Assemble or install equipment or parts requiring simple wiring, soldering, or connecting;
+ Perform simple or routine tasks or tests such as tensile or hardness tests; operating and adjusting simple test equipment; records test data;
+ Gather and maintain specified records of engineering data such as tests, drawings, etc.; performing computations by substituting numbers in specified formulas; plotting data and draws simple curves and graphs;
+ Replace electrical receptacle covers, switches; using plaster or compound to patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings;
+ Repair or replace sinks, water coolers, toilets, painting structures and equipment;
+ Replace damaged sheet rock, paneling, floor tiles, and ceiling tiles; hanging doors and installing door locks;
+ Replaces broken window panes;
+ Perform general maintenance on equipment or machinery;
+ Installs or repairs any of a variety of electrical equipment, painting, plumbing and masonry;
+ Assists other crafts and trades personnel in their daily operations.

** Qualifications*
* This is a
** part-time, on-call position
** with no guaranteed minimum number of hours. Work schedules will vary based on contract requirements and workload. Candidates who are available for short-term projects and flexible scheduling are encouraged to apply.
+ High School Diploma or GED equivalent, with a minimum of one (1) years of experience in Operations and Maintenance services supporting a military base or civilian installation.
+ Experience in general maintenance, facility repair, or related trade.
+ Ability to safely use hand and power tools.
+ Ability to lift, carry, and move materials and equipment as required.
+ Ability to work independently with minimal supervision after receiving work assignments.
+ Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.
+ Ability to obtain (Bowhead will assist) and maintain a
** Secret Clearance
** to allow access to Naval Support Activity in Dahlgren.
+ Possession of a valid driver's license.
+ Emergency Management/Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) experience, preferred.
Physical Demands:
+ Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
+ Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
+ Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically
SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
