The Sr. Software Developer is responsible for supporting development efforts supporting A50 NSWCDD for the Tomahawk program at Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division. They will play a supporting role in achieving the organizations goals by operating in key development role with design, peer review, coding, and troubleshooting support.
Core Functions /Job Duties
- Designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality software applications using Java, JavaFX, and Guice.
- Using Git for local development and Git Lab for configuration management, including handling merge requests and maintaining code repositories.
- Leading and participating in the full software development life‑cycle, from concept to deployment, employing Gradle for building and automating the compilation, testing, and deployment of the application.
- Engaging in the Dev Sec Ops pipeline to compile code, execute unit tests, verify code coverage, and analyze results from Sonar Qube scans.
- Collaborating with cross‑functional teams, both internal and external stakeholders, to define and implement innovative solutions.
- Establishing clear code‑review guidelines, using tools for automation, and focusing on constructive feedback to ensure efficient reviews and high‑quality code.
- Mentoring mid‑level developers and providing technical guidance to the team.
- Contributing to technical documentation and software architecture decisions.
- Managing artifacts generated from Git Lab using Artifactory and facilitating customer deliveries through Nexus.
- Implementing security measures and data‑protection protocols.
- Working with VMware Workstation to create and manage virtualized development environments on local machines.
- Participating in Agile methodologies as a member of a scrum team, conducting peer reviews, attending Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, daily stand‑ups, retrospectives, and backlog grooming using JIRA for ticket management and Confluence for documentation.
- Implementing a systematic approach, including profiling, testing, and refactoring, to troubleshoot, debug, and optimize code for maximum performance.
- Java, JavaFX & C++ – Required.
- Dependency injection with Guice – Desired.
- Git & Git Lab – Required.
- Dev Sec Ops principles and practices – Required.
- Gradle, Sonar Qube, VMware Workstation, Artifactory, & Nexus – Desired.
- Linux/Unix Experience – Preferred.
- Software design patterns and architecture principles.
- Web development technologies and frameworks.
- Database technologies and ORM techniques.
- Agile methodologies and project management tools.
- Cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Microservices architecture and containerization.
- Scalability and performance optimization techniques.
- Big data technologies and analytics.
Bachelor of Science in a related STEM field – Required.

Security ClearanceCandidates must have an active clearance or the ability to obtain a US Government security clearance and will be subject to a US security background investigation (favorable background investigation / credit score). Additional eligibility requirements for access to various levels of classified information may also be required. An active security clearance is highly desirable.
