The Software Developer is responsible for supporting development efforts supporting A50 NSWCDD for the Tomahawk program at Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division. They will play a supporting role in achieving the organization’s goals by operating in key development role with design, peer review, coding, and troubleshooting support.
Core Functions /Job Duties
- Oversee the entire software development life‑cycle, including design, development, and implement applications using Java, JavaFX, and Guice, employing Gradle for building, automating compilation, testing, and deployment.
- Use Git for local development and Git Lab for configuration management, handling merge requests and maintaining code repositories.
- Lead and mentor a team of junior developers in a collaborative, high‑performing environment.
- Engage in Dev Sec Ops pipeline to compile code, execute unit tests, verify code coverage, and analyze results from Sonar Qube scans.
- Plan, prioritize, and coordinate development tasks to ensure projects are delivered on time and meet quality standards.
- Design and implement scalable and maintainable software architectures aligned with project requirements.
- Conduct code reviews to ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices.
- Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize code for maximum performance.
- Use Sonar Qube to perform static code analysis, identify potential vulnerabilities, and ensure code quality.
- Analyze complex technical issues and implement effective solutions.
- Maintain comprehensive technical documentation for projects, including design specifications and user guides.
- Participate in Agile methodologies and development processes such as serving as a member of a scrum team, conducting peer reviews, participating in Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, daily stand‑ups, retrospectives, backlog grooming, and using JIRA for ticket management and Confluence for documentation.
- Stay updated on emerging technologies and recommend tools or practices to enhance team productivity.
- Work with VMWare Workstation to create and manage virtualized development environments on local machines.
- Manage artifacts generated from Git Lab using Artifactory and facilitate customer deliveries through Nexus.
- Programming Languages & Frameworks:
Java, JavaFX, C++ (required); dependency injection with Guice (desired). - Version Control Systems and CI/CD:
Git & Git Lab (required);
Dev Sec Ops principles and practices (required). - Development and Build Tools:
Gradle, Sonar Qube, VMWare Workstation, Artifactory, & Nexus (desired). - Linux/Unix experience (preferred).
- Software architecture principles and design patterns.
- Agile/Scrum methodologies and project management tools.
- Microservice architecture and containerization.
- Automated testing frameworks.
- System monitoring tools and performance optimization techniques.
Required: Bachelor of Science in a related STEM field.

Pay RangeLevel 4: $ to $ annually, DOE.
U.S. Citizenship Is Required.
Security ClearanceCandidates must have an active clearance or the ability to obtain a US Government security clearance and will be subject to a US security background investigation. An active security clearance is highly desirable.
