Job Summary

The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a federal work study student in the Postal Services department on the Dahlonega campus. Postal Services sorts hundreds of pieces of mail each day, and we mail out thousands each month. We help many customers at the window, and our student employees help us get all of it done. Student Assistants help at the customer service desk and follow protocol to determine correct postage amounts, including helping to determine the optimal price and class of mail for the customer's needs.

Student assistants aid in the sorting and organization of mail and help with the projects that are done each semester to keep processes up to date and our data accurate.

Responsibilities
  • Assist customers at the front desk in a professional manner, and be able to look up mail prices and give accurate information. Determine, using the USPS guidelines, what class an item gets by default and what extra classes and services that are available to the customer.

  • Sort and distribute student, staff and faculty mail. Utilize meter machine to process outgoing mail. Open and close student boxes, and help in the maintenance of records for mailboxes. Log in packages and place on organized shelves. Maintain and update a series of excel sheets. Make keys and help in the maintenance of mailboxes.

  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abiities
  • Self starter with good time utilization. Can work with little supervision.

  • Basic math and computer skills.

  • Must be able to get to work on-time.

  • Must be detail oriented.

  • Good inter-personal communication skills/customer service abilities.

  • Good problem solving and critical thinking skills.

  • Prior work with the mail industry is a plus.
Required Qualifications
  • Must be enrolled at the University of North Georgia in a minimum of six (6) credit hours to qualify as a student worker.
