Job Title: STEM Career Readiness Specialist

Location: University of North Georgia

Job Summary

The University of North Georgia is accepting applications for a STEM Career Services Specialist position. The STEM Career Specialist provides career education, guidance, and support to undergraduate students, graduate students, and alumni from the College of Science & Mathematics; offers tailored career counseling, internship coordination, and industry connection opportunities. Key duties include one-on-one coaching for career development and collaborating with faculty to create career-focused education and events.

Responsibilities
  • Provide one‑on‑one career support and guidance to students and alumni, helping them build self‑awareness of values, interests, and preferences; interpret career assessment results; demonstrate resources for occupational research; teach resume building, networking skills, social media management, interview preparation, and ethical AI use in career development; support experiential learning and graduate school planning.
  • Develop interactive career presentations for classes, career chats, and student groups; collaborate with faculty, staff, alumni, and industry professionals to provide customized career education and connect students with opportunities; create and manage career showcases, fairs, or panels for the College of Science & Mathematics.
  • Consult with department chairs and faculty within the College of Science & Mathematics, providing career content as requested; assist with developing and maintaining industry connections; stay current with changes to relevant industries, hiring needs, and recruitment practices.
  • Coordinate internship program paperwork; guide students, faculty, and employers on internship development; facilitate credit and non‑credit bearing opportunities, recommend policies and procedures, and collect and record internship data.
  • Assist with donation drives, record‑keeping, and maintenance of Nigel’s Career Closet; guide students in using Nigel’s Career Closet and the Iris photobooth.
  • Create career content for the website, newsletter, handouts or videos; generate career‑related social media content for posting by the social media manager; participate in team meetings and collaborate to promote career services.
  • Collaborate with campuses and departments to support orientation, graduation, Nighthawk Showcase, Majors Fair, and other programs as needed.
  • Provide tasks and feedback to the Career Services administrative assistant and/or student workers.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal and persuasive skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including presentation skills.
  • Strong project management and marketing skills; computer and AI skills.
  • Ability to establish rapport with students, faculty, and employers; handle multiple tasks and projects on short deadlines; evaluate assessment data; teamwork; continuous learning; and make industry connections.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Biology, Engineering, or a related major.
  • Two years of relevant career or recruiting/staffing or academic advising experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • GCDF, CCSP or other career development‑related certifications.
  • Familiarity with federal employment laws, workforce development issues, strategies for job seekers, and career development theories and practices.
