Our Social Foundations of Education program provides students a foundation in the field that demonstrates the significant role that they will have as educators in the future.

Students who are pre-service and current teachers and administrators benefit from the expertise of our faculty who model successful pedagogy, service, and scholarship.

The University of North Georgia's Social Foundations and Leadership Education Department is seeking applications for the position of an Assistant/Associate Professor beginning Fall 2027. This is a 10-month position; summer teaching is possible but not guaranteed.

• The faculty member is expected to teach specified courses, prepare course materials, provide support and guidance to students through academic advising, foster student success, maintain records pertinent to accreditation, and assist in the supervision of students completing field placements. Commitment to a collaborative curriculum development model is expected.
• General faculty responsibilities in the department include but are not limited to the following:
  • Teach undergraduate courses on the Gainesville campus, primarily, but also undergraduate and graduate courses, depending on need and credentials, face-to-face in other locations, hybrid, and/or online;
  • Participate in recruitment and retention activities for undergraduate students, particularly students on the Gainesville campus;
  • Engage in department, college, and university-wide student success initiatives;
  • Engage in service activities at all required levels;
  • Engage in research, scholarship, and professional development; and
  • Participate in program review, program assessment, and accreditation activities.

• Doctorate in the Social Foundations of Education, or a closely related field. ABD candidates will be considered if degree completion is expected prior to August 2027.
• The successful candidate should demonstrate the following:
  • Expertise in academic field of the Social Foundations of Education or a closely related field;
  • Ability to work collegially with other members of the faculty and utilize opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration;
  • Familiarity with learning, teaching, and multicultural educational theorie;
  • Professional written and oral communication skills;
  • Evidence of effective and innovative teaching practices; and
  • Experience in effective and engaging teaching in the fully online environment.

• Minimum three years teaching experience at the K-12 level , preferably in a public-school setting
• Experience teaching courses at the collegiate level
• A record of scholarly activity
• A record of or strong indication of the potential to secure external funding
