Information Security Analyst II

The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for an Information Security Analyst II on the Dahlonega campus. The Information Security Analyst II supports the university and IT by assisting with duties related to monitoring the University’s systems and networks. Assists the Information Security team in all aspects, including intrusion detection, security event monitoring, and user awareness training. This position is also responsible for supporting and maintaining current and future cyber security solutions and tools in use by the University.
Responsibilities- Provides proactive monitoring and network support, including incident response, for all critical systems and desktop computing. Provides support and assists with coordinators of Incident Response (IR), Audit, Risk Management and Compliance, and Vulnerability Management with current initiatives.
- Performs Systems Security Analysis, Patch Management, Antivirus Protection, Firewall Management, Spam Prevention, Asset Hardening, Vulnerability Detection and Incident Response.
- Performs security assessments for current and prospective IT solutions.
- Coordinates and maintains and updates existing documentation.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Disaster Recovery process awareness.
- Knowledge and proficiency with basic network and application layer protocols.
- Intermediate knowledge or experience with security technologies (e.g., firewalls, antivirus, encryption, port‑scanning, IDS/IPS).
- Intermediate level of proficiency with configuring, hardening, and assessing Windows desktop and server platforms.
- Knowledge of implementing and supporting enterprise applications in a multi‑user environment.
- Intermediate knowledge of networking and operating system(s) security.
- Knowledge of cloud computing platforms (MS Azure) and identity management solutions (Okta/Duo).
- Specific knowledge of networking threats, vulnerabilities and resolutions.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks at the same time.
- Ability to multi‑task, manage workload, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to communicate with team members and users in an effective manner.
- Ability to follow action plans and organize work in order to meet deadlines and user demand.
- Ability and willingness to stay abreast of and evaluate emerging technologies.
- Ability and willingness to work flexible, evening and/or weekend hours.
- Ability and willingness to attend formal and informal training.
- Associate’s Degree OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Security+ or equivalent required (or ability to obtain within six months of hiring).
- 5‑7 years of experience with:
Apple, Microsoft and Linux platforms; in‑depth experience with Microsoft environment and related security vulnerabilities and remediation; experience with Internet‑based threats; experience supporting and securing cloud security platforms; experience with network security architectures to include firewalls, intrusion detection, anti‑spam, spyware, and network access control systems.
- Basic project planning experience.
Minimum Starting Salary: $73,155
