Ideal candidates possess a strong foundation in American Sign Language (ASL) and a commitment to fostering inclusive learning experiences. This is a chance to help bridge communication gaps and empower students to reach their full potential.
Qualifications:- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- National or state-level interpreter certification strongly preferred
- Experience interpreting in educational or school settings
- Familiarity with IEP processes and accommodations for deaf/hard-of-hearing students is a plus
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and other interpreters
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism
- Interpret classroom instruction and school communications for deaf/hard-of-hearing students
- Support student participation during lectures, group work, and extracurricular activities
- Collaborate with teachers to anticipate communication needs and adjust interpreting accordingly
- Maintain accurate and impartial translation
- Support students in understanding assignments, discussions, and school events
- Attend IEP meetings and provide feedback on communication access as needed
- Promote self-advocacy and independence among students
