Make a meaningful impact supporting students as a Sign Language Interpreter in an educational environment. This contract position offers the opportunity to facilitate communication and ensure access for deaf and hard-of-hearing students, working directly within a vibrant school community near Dahlonega, GA.

Ideal candidates possess a strong foundation in American Sign Language (ASL) and a commitment to fostering inclusive learning experiences. This is a chance to help bridge communication gaps and empower students to reach their full potential.

Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • National or state-level interpreter certification strongly preferred
  • Experience interpreting in educational or school settings
  • Familiarity with IEP processes and accommodations for deaf/hard-of-hearing students is a plus
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and other interpreters
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism
Responsibilities:
  • Interpret classroom instruction and school communications for deaf/hard-of-hearing students
  • Support student participation during lectures, group work, and extracurricular activities
  • Collaborate with teachers to anticipate communication needs and adjust interpreting accordingly
  • Maintain accurate and impartial translation
  • Support students in understanding assignments, discussions, and school events
  • Attend IEP meetings and provide feedback on communication access as needed
  • Promote self-advocacy and independence among students
