Job Summary: The Coordinator of Literacy, K-12 is a vital and supportive member of the PCSD team, working collaboratively with educators, support staff, and administration to ensure all students receive the education they need to succeed both today and tomorrow. This role is performed within an office environment overseen by the Executive Director of K-5 Teaching & Learning, where teamwork and dedication to student success are paramount.

Primary Function: The Curriculum Coordinator of K-12 Literacy is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive K-12 literacy program that enhances student literacy outcomes across reading and writing. This role ensures literacy instruction is aligned with district goals and the district strategic plan, research‑based best practices, and state and national standards. The Coordinator provides leadership and instructional expertise to schools to support the integration of writing instruction throughout the curriculum, and provides professional learning to improve literacy teaching practices.

The coordinator builds staff capacity in content, teaching strategies, vertical alignment, and mastery expectations appropriate for K-12 literacy, and develops differentiated curricula, instruction, assessment, and intervention.

Qualifications:

  • Must hold or be eligible for a Georgia Level 5 certificate or higher; educational leadership preferred
  • Minimum five (5) years of teaching experience
  • School leadership at local level required
  • Strong understanding of K-12 literacy instruction, with a deep focus in Science of Reading and writing pedagogy and demonstrated leadership in writing instruction
  • Demonstrated experience with leading professional development and/or program implementation
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills required
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets and data analysis and the ability to use the data to inform instructional decisions

The Board of Education and the Superintendent may accept alternatives to some of the above requirements.

Essential Functions
  • Leads the development, review, and continuous improvement of K-12 literacy curricula (reading and writing) to ensure pedagogy in Science of Reading and best practice in writing instruction and intentionally leads in the connection between SOR pedagogy, our curricula, and new ELA standards.
  • Promotes and models effective, evidence‑based teaching strategies for literacy instruction in K-12 classrooms, specifically integrating writing instruction throughout the literacy program, ensuring it supports reading comprehension, critical thinking, and communication.
  • Conducts routine observations in K-12 classrooms and provides direct support, coaching, and feedback to teachers in best practices in literacy instruction, to include writing, early literacy SOR strategies, adolescent reading strategies, and assessment.
  • Leads in the design and implementation of K-12 literacy strategies and interventions that cater to diverse student needs, including SWD, ELL, and advanced learners, and rooted in Science of Reading.
  • Leads K-12 school administrators and teachers to effectively utilize available writing resources and tools, including rubrics, new ELA standards framework, and district provided assessments.
  • Supports the development of high‑quality/effective literacy/writing initiatives in grades K-12.
  • Collaborates with ELA coordinators and other content coordinators as appropriate and the district literacy team regularly to ensure alignment of K-12 literacy instruction.
