Job Summary:
The Parent Mentor is a vital and supportive member of the PCSD team, working collaboratively with educators, support staff, and administration to achieve the shared goal of ensuring all students receive the education they need to succeed both today and tomorrow. This role is performed within a school environment, overseen by the school principal, where teamwork and dedication to student success are paramount.
All staff are expected to fully adhere to the ethical standards set forth by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, continuously demonstrating a strong understanding of the tasks and responsibilities their roles require. Moreover, they must embody the core belief that every action we take is driven by a commitment to the best interests of our students.

Primary Function:
Promote the Exceptional Students' Educational Program activities through letters to parents, teachers, press releases. Develop newsletter for the Parent Mentor Program. Develop packets of information for parents of newly identified students and all parents of students with disabilities. Educate parents of sources of information such as web sites and local GLRS. Knowledge of the IEP process, the parent's role and local school system policies and procedures.

Qualifications:
Minimum a bachelor's degree preferred
Parent of Special Needs child preferred
Display positive attitude and leadership qualities
Possess excellent communication and computer skills
Establish working relationship with the school system
The Board of Education and the Superintendent may accept alternatives to some of the above requirements.
Essential Functions:
Provide support to families of students with disabilities in understanding procedural safeguards
Act as a liaison between families of students with disabilities and community agencies
Develop training manuals to facilitate the understanding of IDEA and program implementation for parents of students with disabilities
Provide support to schools by conducting parent coffees/training and support
Assist coordinators by supporting families struggling to navigate special education
Attend conferences to enhance knowledge and awareness
Support Coordinators with parent coffees / parent night workshops
Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee
