Job Summary:
The School Clinic Assist antis a vital and supportive member of the PCSD team, working collaboratively with educators, support staff, and administration to achieve the shared goal of ensuring all students receive the education they need to succeed both today and tomorrow. This role is performed within a school environment, overseen by the school Principal and Lead Nurse, where teamwork and dedication to student success are paramount.

All staff are expected to fully adhere to the ethical standards set forth by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, continuously demonstrating a strong understanding of the tasks and responsibilities their roles require. Moreover, they must embody the core belief that every action we take is driven by a commitment to the best interests of our students.

FLSA: Non-Exempt/Compensable Time Eligible

Primary Function: Assist school nurses in providing basic health services to students at school-based clinics. Knowledge of basic health office practices, terminology, procedures, and equipment. Knowledge of health and safety regulations. Ability to operate a computer and assigned software. Knowledge of record-keeping and report preparation techniques. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.

Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard

Constant Interruptions

Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person and on the telephone. Seeing to read a variety of materials

Potential exposure to infectious diseases, blood, and bodily fluids

Sitting for extended periods of time

Bending at the waist, kneeling, or crouching to file materials

Lifting students and lifting to 40 pounds, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling.

Ability to assist students in emergency situations requiring a quick pace traversing stairs or hills.

Qualifications:

Minimum of Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certificate required

Must possess First Aid and CPR Certificate

Health/first aid field experience including some training and experience in pediatrics and emergency medical care

Training in blood borne pathogen procedures is desirable

The Board of Education and the Superintendent may accept alternatives to some of the above requirements.

Essential Functions:
  • 1. Performs routine clinical services as required including basic health assessment and first aid, and follows up in a user-friendly clinic environment
  • 2. Monitors and maintains clinic records
  • 3. Assist with any student emergency and notify appropriate personnel in an effective and timely manner
  • 4. Assist school nurse with student screenings
  • 5. Encourages and promotes health education and wellness, through best-practice clinic interventions, in accordance with health policies, goals, and objectives of the nursing program
  • 6. Assist with communicable disease prevention and control by good recordkeeping and reporting cases to Lead Nurse
  • 7. Assists in monitoring immunization records and acts as a resource regarding current immunization practices
  • 8. Manages and supports students with chronic diseases and disabilities, communicating effectively with parents/guardians and related staff
  • 9. Notifies parents, guardians, and appropriate school personnel in a timely manner using effective communication skills regarding illness, accidents, etc.
  • 10. Communicates with nursing supervisor, lead nurse, principal, and other staff members regarding school health issues
  • 11. Demonstrates good organizational and time management skills
  • 12. Completes assigned paperwork accurately and in a timely manner
  • 14. Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee
