All School Bus Drivers will be initially hired as Substitute School Bus Drivers and must complete all required driver training and testing through the Paulding County School District Transportation Department. Upon successful completion of the training and testing, candidates will be eligible to work as a Substitute School Bus Driver and may transition to the position of Bus Driver when available, at the discretion of the Transportation Department.
Qualifications- Minimum of high school diploma or GED
- Valid Georgia Driver's License and a Georgia Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or ability to obtain a Georgia CDL of appropriate class with Passenger, School Bus and Air Brake Endorsement
- Must hold or be eligible for a valid CPR/First Aid card
- Must be able to pass state required drug screening
- Must pass an annual physical examination
- Other qualifications the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
- Sitting for extended periods of time
- Hearing and speaking to exchange information
- Reaching, pulling and pushing to operate air brake
- Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to inspect buses
- Climbing steps
- Reaching overhead, above the shoulders or horizontally
- Seeing to monitor passengers and operate a vehicle
- Lifting a minimum of 50 pounds
- Repetitive pushing with right leg to operate brake
- Ability to physically perform evacuation of the bus in the event of an emergency
- Knowledge of laws, policies and procedures as stated in the Driver Reference Guide
- Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of school buses to transport students safely and efficiently
- Performs daily pre and post trip inspections
- Knowledge of the preparation of a variety of records and reports related to assignment
- Operates bus using legal safe defensive driving practices
- Knowledge of district policies and procedures pertaining to student discipline
- Operates a school bus along a designated route
- Picks up and discharges general and special education students in accordance with time schedules
- Assures compliance with applicable traffic and student transportation laws, codes and regulations
- Maintains order and discipline among passengers on the bus and while waiting at bus stops
- Maintains bus in a clean and safe operating condition
- Refuels and prepares vehicle for operation
- Assists handicapped students with boarding, sitting and leaving the bus safely
- Maintains video surveillance monitor equipment
- Meets scheduled departure and arrival times as assigned
- Administers first aid to passengers as needed
