This position performs a variety of semi‑skilled work in the maintenance and repair of City facilities, including City Hall, the Library, Aquatic Center, Fire Station and Public Works Shops.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Performs custodial duties as needed; oversees, and directs custodial operations.
  • Finds and procures equipment, restroom supplies, tools and replacement parts for maintenance needs.
  • Supervises part‑time maintenance staff at the Dallas Aquatic Center and assists as needed in general maintenance duties.
  • Ensures that fire extinguishers at all City facilities are inspected on a monthly basis.
  • Inspects eyewash stations at City Hall on a weekly basis.
  • Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on equipment and repairs or contracts for repairs as needed. Cleans and checks equipment and tools after use.
  • Performs maintenance and repair work on all city buildings. Duties include mechanical work, carpentry work, cement work, painting, welding and janitorial work, etc.
  • Directs the maintenance and repair work of all city facilities.
  • Responsible for City buildings’ heating systems, air condition systems, etc. Duties include operation and routine maintenance.
  • Secures, coordinates and inspects repair work and new installs performed by vendors.
  • Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
  • Installs computer and telephone systems. Coordinates IT needs with County IT.
  • Readies surplus equipment for disposal.
  • Oversees and performs, as needed, required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects, including repairing and replacing roofs, door hardware installation, flooring installation, interior painting, office redesigns and renovations, etc.
  • Responsible for furniture repairs, purchase and installation.
  • Oversees the opening, closing, cleaning, and setting up of the Civic Center and Council Chambers.
  • Studies, suggests and implements energy saving measures throughout all facilities.
  • Serves as project manager for facility and departmental projects.
  • Performs snow and ice removal from around downtown City buildings, as needed.
  • Proficiency with relevant computer programs such as Microsoft Office, Quest

    CDN, Sketch

    UP Pro, Blue Beam etc.
  • Ability to manage inventory. Familiarity with maintenance products and ability to procure them.
  • Experience with procuring vendors and managing contracts.
  • Ability to prioritize projects and manage work flow.
  • Ability to utilize blueprints and floor plans.
  • Reasonable knowledge in the operation and maintenance of equipment such as boilers, pumps, assembling and disassembling plumbing, roofing and repair, carpentry, minor electrical work.
  • Skill in operation of some of the listed tools and equipment.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time; ability to work safely; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public; ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

Motorized vehicles and equipment, including pickup truck, utility truck, manlift, saws, pumps, compressors, sanders, common hand and power tools, shovels, wrenches, detection devices, mobile radios, phone, electrical metering devices, backpack blower, drill press and router.

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent; AND
  • Two (2) years of experience relating to construction, maintenance, or repair; OR
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must possess a valid driver license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must reside within a reasonable distance to respond to emergency calls within 30 minutes
