Crude Oil Accountant

HF Sinclair is seeking a Crude Oil Accountant in Dallas, TX. In this role, you will conduct moderate accounting assignments within Crude Oil Accounting with direct supervision. You will support accounting for one refinery supply chain as assigned, representing purchases ranging from 1‑4m bbls / month, $1‑5m of associated logistics expenses and inventories up to 1m bbls.

• Review and interpret commercial contracts and exercise sound judgment in determining the appropriate accounting treatment
• Prepare and confirm a variety of wire transfer and payment requests
• Verify crude oil volumes and prices with external customers and suppliers
• Prepare journal entries and inventory adjustments as needed and perform account reconciliations
• Prepare reconciliations of perpetual inventory (receipts, deliveries and balances) to pipeline or terminal shipper statements and refinery receipts
• Assist other associates in processing transactions and reports
• Analyze crude oil pipeline/rail/truck reports and work with crude oil schedulers to ensure completeness and accuracy of crude movement transactions in the accounting system
• Research discrepancies and perform root cause analysis
• Measure and track estimated vs. actual vs. scheduled volumes
• Assist in special projects and research tasks involving best practices and process improvements
• Perform inventory valuations

Other duties may include some or all of the following:

• Create, maintain, and perform a variety of reports/spreadsheets for royalty tax, inventory, pipeline commitments and other related materials
• Perform lease crude specific duties consisting of severance tax reporting, royalty payments and reporting, update and verification of pricing and tax rates, and reconciliation of lease payables subledger to the general ledger
• Submit, track and analyze master file additions, changes

Special assignments, projects or tasks may be assigned to the employee by their supervisor as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.

None typically required, but one year of job experience may be required depending on location.

One to three years of work experience in refining or manufacturing.

A Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance is required.

Ability to perform basic to moderate accounting analysis and mathematical calculations.

A broad understanding of accounting practices and procedures is required. Exercise sound judgment to identify, troubleshoot and resolve day‑to‑day technical and process problems. Communicate effectively with others, both written and verbal. Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and experience with accounting software. Utilize analytical skills to understand and explain crude movements. Communicate in a professional manner and establish effective working relationships with internal operations and external customers.

Demonstrate an aptitude for quick learning and problem‑solving outstanding issues by working with various departments and external parties.

Experience with SAP FI/CO, BI Reporting accounting software.

Office‑based, up to 20% travel required.
