Job Summary
Support the mission and strategic goals of Dallas College Foundation by executing accounting operations of the Foundation, including accounts payable and receivable, financial reporting, cash/revenue processing and monitoring, supporting audit schedule preparations and other tasks as may be requested.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Coordinate the development of two public budgets and one private non‑profit budget within the guidelines, policies and procedures established by Dallas College and the Dallas College Foundation Board.
- Manage all ongoing accounting functions, financial activities and resulting reports for both public and private budgets.
- Analyze and control expenditures of all budgeted transactions, ensuring standard and federal regulations and principles for general accounting are identified, established and maintained.
- Build and maintain general ledgers and charts of accounts.
- Prepare reconciliations and journal entries, manage accounts payable, and complete month‑end and fiscal‑end closing of accounting books.
- Monitor legal and tax issues related to nonprofit fund accounting.
- Plan, direct and administer the accounting function for the office.
- Lead procurement efforts, including overseeing Amazon and credit card purchases.
- Manage the records of all contributions including scholarships and grants.
- Implement and monitor the internal schedule to produce accurate and timely monthly and year‑end financial and statistical reports.
- Prepare complex federal reports including IRS Form 990 for the Foundation’s annual tax/information return.
- Monitor changes in laws, regulations and reporting requirements.
- Support the annual independent external audit process.
- Allocate interest and dividends for Foundation endowments.
- Contribute to the publication of Foundation accounting information.
- Prepare monthly financial statements under the direction of the Sr. Director of Finance and Business Affairs.
- Oversee the Foundation business insurance plans to ensure timeliness and adequacy.
- Maintain the highest ethical standards and adherence to applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Complete required Dallas College professional development training hours per academic year.
- Provide excellent customer service.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Position requires regular and predictable attendance.
- Criminal background check and optional fingerprint check may be required.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher.
- Five (5) years of accounting experience in a computerized location.
- School/education transcripts required.
- Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge.
- Investment accounting experience preferred.
- Experience with current and emerging technologies.
- Strong knowledge of fund accounting and a thorough working knowledge of the application of general accounting principles, especially in a non‑profit or higher education context.
- Comprehensive understanding of software applications and ability to use computer technology to access data, maintain records and generate reports.
- Highly energetic, motivated self‑starter with the drive to develop systems that ensure proper management and reporting on all aspects of the Foundation’s finances and accounting.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Understanding and effectively managing group dynamics and ambiguity; maintains confidentiality; acts ethically and with integrity.
