Senior Controller - Mortgage Servicing / Financial Services
Location:
Dallas, Texas (Hybrid)
A highly respected and growing financial services organization is seeking an experienced Senior Controller to lead the accounting, payroll, and accounts payable functions for a complex enterprise. This executive-level position will oversee the monthly close process, financial reporting, cash management, internal controls, audit coordination, and accounting operations while partnering closely with executive leadership.
The ideal candidate will bring deep experience within the mortgage servicing industry or a related financial services environment, along with exceptional leadership skills and a strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, regulatory compliance, and financial reporting. This individual will play a key role in driving process improvements, strengthening internal controls, supporting strategic initiatives, and developing a high-performing accounting organization.
Primary Responsibilities- Lead all accounting, payroll, accounts payable, and financial reporting functions across multiple legal entities
- Ensure timely and accurate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
- Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors and oversee annual financial audits
- Oversee mortgage servicing rights (MSR) accounting and collaborate with third-party valuation firms
- Maintain compliance with U.S. GAAP, investor reporting requirements, and regulatory standards
- Manage cash flow, balance sheet reconciliations, intercompany accounting, and bank reconciliations
- Oversee debt reporting, lender covenant compliance, payroll, disbursement reviews, and internal financial reporting
- Review contracts to determine appropriate accounting treatment and financial recognition
- Develop, document, and enhance accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Lead continuous process improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and reduce operational risk
- Partner with executive leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial planning
- Mentor, develop, and lead a high-performing accounting team
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- CPA or equivalent professional certification required
- 15+ years of progressive accounting experience
- 10+ years of leadership experience within mortgage servicing or a related financial services organization
- Prior Controller or Senior Controller experience
- Proven experience managing and developing accounting teams
- Extensive knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, and regulatory compliance
- Experience with investor reporting (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Ginnie Mae) and mortgage servicing rights (MSR) accounting
- Strong understanding of enterprise accounting systems, cash management, and financial planning
- Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or similar enterprise platforms
