Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Controller  $170-200k plus bonus

Bell & Associates has been engaged to help our client recruit their next Controller. This is a hands-on, business-facing Controller seat reporting directly to the CFO in a multi-entity, PE-owned environment operating at institutional reporting standards. You’ll own monthly and quarterly close, the consolidated balance sheet, sponsor and lender reporting, tax compliance, the AP and P-Card function, and the controls environment — while leading two enterprise systems initiatives (Net Suite post-implementation and a new fixed asset system) and supporting live M&A activity.

You’ll engage regularly with operations, customers, vendors, auditors, taxing authorities, and deal counter parties. Prior experience as a sitting Controller is required.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Close & Reporting:
Monthly/quarterly close and GAAP financial statements across a multi-entity structure; board- and sponsor-ready packages including KPI dashboards, variance analysis, and ABL covenant compliance reporting.
  • Balance Sheet & Compliance:
Ownership of the consolidated balance sheet — account reconciliations, integrity, and substantiation — and management of accounting and financial compliance activities across all entities, coordinating with external advisors and auditors.
  • M&A Integration:
Financial due diligence support (QoE, working capital, opening balance sheets), purchase accounting (ASC 805), and accelerated post-close integration — chart-of-accounts mapping, policy harmonization, and consolidation of acquired entities.
  • Net Suite:
Finance workstream leadership post-go-live — GL structure, multi-entity consolidation, workflow configuration, data reconciliation, documented close procedures, and team adoption.
  • Fixed Assets:
Selection and implementation of a dedicated fixed asset system integrated with Net Suite; migration of the asset register (equipment, vehicles, fueling infrastructure) and depreciation/capitalization policy administration (ASC 360/842).
  • Audit & Transactions:
Primary day-to-day owner of the annual audit — PBC lists, schedules, and auditor management to a tight timeline — plus technical memos and support for financing, lender, and sponsor requests; primary contact for bank and customer audits.
  • Taxes:
Lead responsibility for tax compliance and audit matters — managing state taxing authority interactions and external providers across income, fuel, sales, and property tax filings.
  • AP & P-Card:
Leadership of the AP team and administration of the P-Card program across all entities, including exception/fraud monitoring, DPO discipline, and process efficiency across a multi-basin footprint.
  • Team & Controls:
Development of accounting staff and continuous strengthening of the internal control environment as the organization scales.
REQUIREMENTS
  • 8–12+ years of progressive accounting experience including prior experience as a sitting Controller (not Assistant Controller or Manager level)
  • Bachelor’s in Accounting or Finance; CPA strongly preferred; public accounting experience highly preferred
  • PE portfolio company experience strongly preferred — sponsor reporting, covenant compliance, audit ownership
  • Hands-on ERP implementation experience required;
    Net Suite strongly preferred
  • M&A integration and purchase accounting (ASC 805) experience in a multi-entity consolidation environment
  • Fixed asset system implementation or administration experience
  • Multi-state tax compliance exposure (income, fuel, sales, property) and experience managing external tax providers
  • Commercial judgment and operational fluency — comfortable engaging directly with operations, customers, vendors, and deal teams, and translating the business into sound reporting
  • Advanced Excel; energy, oilfield services, logistics, or multi-site operating experience preferred
  • Leadership presence — sets the pace, holds the team accountable, drives initiatives to completion without heavy oversight
