Metric Geo is partnering with a leading 100% employee-owned construction contractor specializing in excavation, site utilities, heavy civil services across the Greater Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, on the search for an experienced Controller.
This is an opportunity for a hands-on finance leader to take ownership of the company's accounting and financial operations while partnering closely with senior leadership and operational teams.
Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee all day-to-day accounting and financial operations for the organization
- Manage the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
- Prepare and review accurate financial statements, management reports, and financial analysis
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, billing, collections, and general ledger activities
- Partner closely with project management, estimating, operations, and executive leadership to monitor project financial performance
- Provide financial oversight of construction projects, including job costing, work-in-progress reporting, committed costs, revenue recognition, and project profitability
- Develop and maintain budgets, forecasts, cash-flow projections, and financial models
- Monitor project and company performance against budgets and identify trends, risks, and opportunities
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax requirements, and regulatory obligations
- Coordinate annual audits, tax filings, insurance requirements, and relationships with external accounting and financial partners
- Manage and develop the accounting/finance team, providing leadership, mentorship, and performance management
- Improve accounting processes, systems, and reporting to increase efficiency and accuracy
- Support senior leadership with financial analysis and recommendations for strategic business decisions
- Monitor cash flow, working capital, banking relationships, and overall financial health
- Assist with capital expenditures, equipment financing, and other financial initiatives
- Maintain accurate financial records and ensure timely completion of reporting requirements
- Support the company's employee-ownership structure by providing clear financial information and promoting accountability across the organization
- Identify opportunities to improve profitability, cost control, and operational efficiency
- Perform other finance and accounting duties as required
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field required
- 8+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with significant experience in the construction industry preferred
- Previous experience in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or senior accounting leadership role
- Strong understanding of construction accounting, job costing, WIP, percentage-of-completion accounting, and project financial reporting
- Experience managing accounting teams and working cross-functionally with operations and project management
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting principles
- Experience with construction accounting/ERP systems preferred
- Strong understanding of cash flow management, budgeting, forecasting, and financial controls
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with both field and corporate teams
- High level of integrity, accountability, and attention to detail
- Ability to operate effectively in a hands-on, entrepreneurial construction environment
- CPA designation or CPA-track experience is a plus
- Experience with in an employee-owned/ESOP organization is a plus
- Construction, excavation, utilities, heavy civil, or related industry experience strongly preferred
- Ability to work onsite in the Greater DFW Metroplex
