JOB SUMMARY

Works under minimal supervision to provide advanced administrative guidance and direction for Office of Accounting.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Job Duties

  • Manage Financial Reporting and Accounting Operations divisions, including the development of work plans and annual performance evaluations for professional and clerical accounting staff.
  • Establish priorities of tasks and responsibilities to ensure accurate and timely completion.
  • Preparation of annual financial report in compliance with UT System and State Comptroller guidelines and generally accepted accounting principles. Monthly, quarterly and annual internal reports and other periodic reports filed with external agencies.
  • Responsible for monitoring and reporting on Unrelated Business Income Tax (UBIT) liability.
  • Responsible for design, execution, and effectiveness of a system of internal controls, which provide reasonable assurance that operations are effective and efficient, assets are safeguarded, and financial information is reliable.
  • Coordinates audits performed by independent firms. Designs and implements policy and procedure changes based on findings.
  • Oversee accounting activity of 501(c)3 corporations affiliated with UT Southwestern.
  • Bank and general ledger reconciliations and monitoring of state appropriation expenditures.
  • Manage and control automated voucher postings from various accounting sub-systems.
  • Manage and control periodic accounting system closings.
  • Monitoring various accounting reports to ensure accuracy and correctness of financial information.
  • Read and interpret current reporting requirements of various agencies, e.g., State Comptroller, UT System, FASB, GASB.
  • Recommend new or enhanced automated reporting processes and procedures.
  • Maintain written policies and procedures for divisions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

Required

  • Education Bachelor's Degree in related field.
  • Experience 7 years progressively responsible, related experience to include at least three (3) years in supervisory capacity.

Preferred

  • Education Master's Degree
  • Licenses and Certifications (CPA) CERT PUBLIC ACCOUNTANT
