This is a unique opportunity to join an entrepreneurial platform backed by established industry leaders while helping build and scale the accounting, operations, and reporting infrastructure of a high-growth investment management business.

Position Overview

The Controller will serve as a key member of the Finance and Operations team, partnering closely with executive leadership to oversee fund accounting, valuation, financial reporting, audit coordination, tax compliance, and fund operations.

This individual will play a critical role in managing complex private-market investment structures while helping develop scalable processes and controls that support the firm's continued growth. The ideal candidate will possess strong private equity fund accounting expertise, valuation experience, and a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset.

Role Responsibilities

  • Lead quarterly fund close processes, including oversight and review of NAV calculations and coordination with third-party fund administrators.
  • Manage accounting for private-market investment vehicles, including capital calls, distributions, waterfall calculations, OID amortization, and complex allocations.
  • Oversee quarterly valuation processes for Level III investments and maintain supporting valuation documentation.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for annual financial statement audits and coordinate with auditors throughout the engagement process.
  • Partner with third-party tax providers on fund, management company, and GP entity tax filings, including K-1 preparation and distribution.
  • Assist with tax structuring initiatives and implementation of new fund structures.
  • Prepare and review investor reporting materials, capital statements, performance metrics, and portfolio analytics, including IRR, DPI, MOIC, and related measures.
  • Manage expense allocation methodologies and oversee fund payment processes.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, profitability analysis, and incentive compensation modeling.
  • Assist with regulatory and compliance reporting requirements.
  • Monitor leverage facilities, interest accruals, covenant compliance, and related reporting.
  • Manage relationships with fund administrators, auditors, valuation firms, tax advisors, legal counsel, and other external service providers.
  • Enhance and maintain operational controls and processes across fund accounting, reporting, and investment operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • Active CPA license preferred.
  • 7+ years of fund accounting experience within private equity, private credit, or alternative asset management environments.
  • Prior public accounting experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with private equity-style fund structures, capital activity, carry, waterfalls, and investor reporting.
  • Hands-on valuation experience with private investments and Level III assets.
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting, audits, tax compliance, and fund operations.
  • Experience managing third-party administrators and external service providers.
  • Highly analytical with strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and contribute to the development of scalable processes and controls.
