Whitley Penn,oneofthe nation’s leading audit, tax, and advisory firms, is looking for an Accounting Associate to join our Client Accounting & Advisory Services (“CAAS”) – Outsourced Accounting team!
The Accounting Associate is expected to demonstrate a basic knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping skills. With the ability to appropriately apply them to a wide variety of clients under the supervision of experienced professionals. Assignments will include diverse accounting and bookkeeping tasks to build your skills in advising clients on their financial operations. Proficiency in cloud-based accounting systems such as Quick Books Online as well as Microsoft Office Excel is required for this position.
Performance is evaluated based on the quality of work, application of accounting knowledge, and ability to meet specified time constraints and deadlines.

Hours:
In-office position; general work schedule is Monday – Friday, 8 hours/day between 8am to 5pm with overtime, as needed.
What You Will Do
- Maintaining client financial records beginning with entering transactions and progressing through month-end close and the preparation of financial statements
- Analyze monthly results with senior accountants and offer input for client improvements.
- Develop and exhibit proficiency in a variety of cloud-based accounting systems, including Quick Books Online.
- Demonstrate a strong work ethic, strong time management skills, and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment; assume responsibility for your work and assist others when needed. Be self-motivated.
- Demonstrate organizational skills and ability to multi-task, requiring a balance of responsiveness to multiple Managers/supervisors.
- Exhibit creativity by expressing new ideas and "thinking outside the box"; be solution-minded.
- Exhibit strong communication skills, both orally and in writing. Actively listen and clearly communicate ideas and information.
- Establish networks and relationships across the Firm. Develop knowledge of the Firm (history, strategy, policies, processes, best practices, etc.).
- Seek opportunities to add new experiences/assignments that increase your commitment and capability within the Firm by participating in programs such as wellness, recruiting, etc.
- Learn and apply best practices for client communications (Email, voicemail, telephone, face-to-face).
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of client operations, processes, and business objectives and utilize that knowledge in engagements.
What You Need to Get Here
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Accounting
- CPA eligibility/license preferred
- 1+ years of experience in bookkeeping or accounting, demonstrating a progression in complexity, scope, and number of engagement assignments
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
