General Summary of the Position
The Funeral Coordinator & Liturgy Assistant is a member of the parish staff, who, in conjunction with the pastor, oversees the preparation for the celebration of Sacred liturgy. The Funeral Coordinator & Liturgy Assistant aids in the planning, execution, and celebration of all parish liturgies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Position- Coordinates funerals held at the parish, as well as occasional funerals held elsewhere for parishioners, in collaboration with funeral home staff. Meets with family of the deceased, coordinates musicians, facilities usage, clergy, etc.
- Responsible for ensuring that the main sanctuary is prepared for all weekend Masses, and is ordinarily present at least 30 minutes before each Mass. Closes the church after the last Mass of the day on Saturdays, Sundays, and Holy Days of Obligation. Is ordinarily present in the office on Sundays until the team counting the collection has completed their count.
- Coordinates Quinceañera blessings that take place at the parish.
- Coordinates occasional offsite Mass for members of the parish, including the annual All Souls Day Mass at the Holy Redeemer Cemetery mausoleum chapel.
- Assists with the setup of special liturgical celebrations, including Holy Days of Obligation and Masses for visiting communities and/or visiting priests. Sees to it that visiting clergy are welcomed and have everything they need for liturgical celebrations. Occasionally assists with weddings.
- Responsible for putting up and taking down flyers/posters in the Church and keeping the Narthex information table clean and orderly. Keeps pamphlet shelf, usher desk and bulletin boards updated accordingly. Occasionally clean worship areas and church bathrooms.
- Keeps the sacristy properly stocked with liturgical supplies, in collaboration with the Business Manager and Altar Guild.
- Sets out “Sunday Sheets” in preparation for weekend Masses. Replaces celebrant schedules monthly. Occasionally replaces bulletins as needed.
- Changes liturgical banners and flowers as needed.
- Maintains church bells schedule and modifies seasonally.
- High School Diploma required; some College preferred.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Outlook, Excel and Word. Must be willing and able to learn how to use the scheduling software used for the church bells and liturgical assignments.
- Must be fluent in English. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
- Must be able to lift at least 15 pounds.
- Special Requirement:
Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing.
