Senior Manager of Business Development - Leveraged and Real Estate Finance and Restructuring

Overview

This exempt position’s primary role is to provide strategic business development counseling for the Leveraged Finance, Real Estate Finance, and Restructuring sections. The Senior Manager of Business Development (Sr BDM) will lead a team of marketing professionals to help lawyers in all aspects of developing profitable new business from existing clients and target clients. This role can sit in Dallas, Charlotte, or New York.

• Lead the development and execution of marketing/business development strategies, plans and projects, nationally and internationally.
• Work with lawyers to identify and evaluate new business opportunities and targets, facilitate cross-collaboration initiatives, participate on client-specific target teams, and support lawyers’ efforts to maintain a sales pipeline.
• Act as BD lead on firmwide initiatives and projects, working directly with firm management, including presenting to leadership on progress and results.
• Proactively provide counseling to lawyers on business development best practices, strategies and techniques.
• Stay abreast of current developments and trends impacting clients and prospects through proactive market research.
• Collaborate with the firm’s Competitive Intelligence team to secure actionable intelligence on market and industry developments impacting clients and prospects.
• Manage, counsel and mentor a dedicated team of marketing professionals supporting designated groups.
• Facilitate the integration of lateral partners into the firm, with a focus on target priorities.
• Work with section leadership to identify opportunities to promote lawyers and clients via awards, recognition, and ranking opportunities.
• Supervise all projects, events, RFP/RFI/proposal/pitch opportunities, deal tracking, directory submissions, etc., and ensure quality of work product.
• Collaborate with Public Relations/Media and Social Media groups to secure exposure for the practice groups and their lawyers.
• Develop and manage the group business development budgets for designated sections and offices.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Reports to:

Director of Business Development with a dotted line to the Chief Marketing Officer. Subordinate staff:
Responsible for managing a specialist and an assistant.

• Education:
  
  Bachelor’s degree required; MBA preferred.
• Experience:
  
  10+ years marketing, business development, or related experience required; law firm or professional services experience preferred.
• Skills/Knowledge:
  Excellent writing, proofreading and verbal communication; ability to manage multiple demands and meet deadlines; strong work ethic; client service mindset; ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment; strong leadership and mentorship ability; sense of urgency and attention to detail; strong computer proficiency (Inter Action, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and related tools).

Office environment. Remains stationary for long periods with periodic travel; may require movement of up to 100% of the time for events. Capable of operating standard office equipment and handling documents up to 15 lbs. Requires strong communication with lawyers, clients and staff. Travel as needed.
