This role blends merchandising, sourcing, and technical product leadership and requires strong retail math, manufacturing expertise, and the ability to make confident, real-time decisions. This is not a traditional sourcing role. The Director will act as a product owner, partnering closely with Sales, Design, and Product Development to deliver commercially successful product that meets retailer expectations on price, margin, quality, and speed to market.
JOBDUTIES
- Own the entire apparel and sleepwear portfolio, ensuring product viability from ideation through commercialization.
- Partner with Sales, Design, and Product Development to define clear product value propositions by channel and retailer.
- Translate creative concepts into retailer-right, price-right, margin-viable product.
- Guide assortment strategies that balance core items, novelty, and trend-right product.
- Bring strong retail math to every conversation, wholesale targets, margin expectations, and cost structures.
- Confidently support Sales in live customer situations, including:
- On-the-spot pricing challenges
- Delivery and margin negotiations
- Buyer objections that require immediate decision‑making
- Conduct competitive analysis and comp shopping to validate pricing and product positioning.
- Lead sourcing strategy across regions, balancing cost, quality, speed, and compliance.
- Determine when and where product can (or cannot) be manufactured based on:
- Volume
- Testing requirements
- Audit constraints
- One‑time vs. repeat programs
- Partner closely with overseas teams (including China‑based production support) to execute against strategy.
- Oversee factory selection, approvals, costing, and commercialization handoff.
- Act as a visible, trusted leader to Product Development teams who are eager for:
- Guidance
- Problem‑solving support
- Decision‑making clarity
- Manage PD team confidence and capability within the first 90 days.
- Break down legacy silos and rebuild trust across Design, PD, and Sales.
- Create clear frameworks for decision‑making and escalation.
- 8+ years of experience in Apparel Merchandising, Sourcing, Product Development, or Buying.
- Strong experience working with mass retailers and off‑price channels.
- Experience partnering with in‑house design teams and global vendors.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and influencing skills.
- Ability to travel 20 % of time.

- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related field.
- Occasional extended work hours depending on volume and collaboration with India office.
