HR is recruiting for a Senior Superintendent on behalf of an ENR Top 25 General Contractor with a strong national presence in large-scale commercial, industrial, and mission-critical construction. This role will lead field operations, drive schedule execution, champion safety, and manage onsite teams to ensure projects are delivered with excellence.
Position Overview
The Senior Superintendent is the primary leader for all onsite construction activity and is responsible for safety, field personnel, subcontractor coordination, schedule execution, and adherence to project plans and specifications. This individual serves as a key partner to Project Management, Estimating, and Division Leadership to ensure efficient, safe, and high-quality project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
1. Safety Leadership
- Promote safety as the highest priority on-site.
- Enforce compliance with company safety plans, jobsite policies, and all applicable safety regulations.
- Ensure corrective actions are implemented promptly and thoroughly.
2. Project & Field Operations Management
- Supervise, direct, and coordinate day-to-day construction activities.
- Serve as the primary field liaison among owners, designers, subcontractors, inspectors, and project teams.
- Develop and execute production plans aligned with budget and schedule goals.
- Update and manage P6 schedules as needed.
3. Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare daily reports, progress reports, compliance logs, and project documentation.
- Assist the Project Manager with project status reports and overall job progress updates.
- Ensure accurate documentation for field activities, inspections, and compliance requirements.
4. Plans, Drawings & Coordination
- Review plans, shop drawings, and specifications to ensure alignment with contract documents.
- Resolve construction issues by collaborating with engineers, architects, inspectors, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Recommend improvements to construction methods and field practices.
5. Procurement & Resource Management
- Procure tools, equipment, and materials to maintain workflow and schedule adherence.
- Determine staffing levels and timing for each phase of construction.
- Ensure optimal use of labor, equipment, and field resources.
6. HR, Workforce Management & Payroll
- Recruit, hire, and manage all company field personnel in accordance with HR policies.
- Oversee or prepare payroll submissions and associated documentation.
- Address workforce complaints and grievances with appropriate HR and Legal support.
- Foster a professional, compliant, and productive work environment.
7. Subcontractor Management
- Supervise and coordinate subcontractors to ensure compliance with subcontract terms, quality standards, and schedule commitments.
- Conduct onsite coordination to resolve conflicts and maintain project flow.
- Work with suppliers and trades to troubleshoot issues and improve construction methods.
8. Inspections & Compliance
- Coordinate and oversee regulatory inspections.
- Ensure all work meets code, regulatory, safety, and quality requirements.
- Enforce company policies and procedures consistently across the project team.
Requirements:
Education – Skills – Knowledge – Qualifications & Experience
- High school diploma or GED preferred; minimum 8 years of relevant construction experience required (superintendent-level experience strongly preferred).
- Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal construction regulations, including OSHA.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural plans, engineering drawings, schedules, financial reports, and legal documents.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to present information to management, owners, subcontractors, and project partners.
- Professional attitude, strong interpersonal skills, and leadership presence.
- Proven ability to lead and manage field teams; strong people-management skills.
- Must be able to travel frequently by car or air for projects across the United States.
- Willingness to work out-of-town for extended periods when onsite presence is required.
- Ability to traverse active construction sites, work outdoors in all weather conditions, and stand for long periods.
- Ability to work at heights, climb ladders/stairs, bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, and perform physical activities associated with field construction.
- Ability to lift/move up to 70 pounds.
- Must be able to withstand exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and airborne particles typical of construction environments.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Experience leading complex projects and coordinating multiple subcontractors.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and efficient project delivery.
