Job Description

The Superintendent of Construction oversees ground-up commercial projects from initial site clearing through final closeout. This role suits a hands-on field leader who excels in subcontractor coordination, project scheduling, and clear communication while working within structured, repeatable project programs. Supported by historical data, standardized checklists, and collaborative field leadership, the superintendent focuses on safe execution, high-quality workmanship, and on-time delivery of commercial construction projects.

Responsibilities

* Oversee ground-up commercial construction projects from grubbing and site clearing through final completion and closeout.

* Manage and coordinate all subcontractor activities on site to ensure work progresses according to plan, quality standards, and schedule.

* Enforce project standards, quality control measures, and safety protocols consistently across all phases of the project.

* Produce thorough and accurate field documentation, including daily reports, progress photos, and Job Hazard Analyses.

* Develop, maintain, and update four-week look-ahead schedules to plan work activities and anticipate resource needs.

* Review and break down look-ahead schedules with subcontractors weekly to align expectations and resolve potential conflicts.

* Lead weekly subcontractor coordination meetings to review progress, address issues, and reinforce safety and quality requirements.

* Communicate effectively and proactively with project management and field leadership regarding progress, risks, and resource needs.

* Collaborate with other superintendents on an ongoing basis to share best practices and continuously improve field operations.

* Maintain momentum, decisiveness, and a solution-oriented mindset in a fast-paced construction environment.

* Apply standardized programs, checklists, and repeatable build processes to ensure consistency and efficiency across projects.

* Support tenant improvement and site construction activities as needed within the broader portfolio of work.

Essential Skills

* 7-10+ years of superintendent experience on ground-up commercial construction projects.

* Proven experience managing projects from initial site work through final closeout.

* Demonstrated ability to manage and coordinate multiple subcontractors on active construction sites.

* Strong understanding of construction scheduling, including development and maintenance of four-week look-ahead schedules.

* Proficiency in field documentation, including daily reports, progress photos, and Job Hazard Analyses.

* Experience with commercial ground-up construction, including retail and other commercial building types.

* Proficiency with Procore or similar construction management software.

* Strong knowledge of safety practices and protocols, including OSHA standards.

* Solid understanding of quality control processes in commercial construction.

* Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction documents.

* Experience working for or with general contractors in a commercial construction setting.

* Effective communication skills for interacting with subcontractors, project managers, and field leadership.

* Ability to operate effectively within standardized programs and repeatable build processes.

Skills & Qualifications

* Experience with retail, dental, medical, or small grocery ground-up projects is preferred.

* Background in tenant improvement projects is beneficial.

* OSHA 30 certification or equivalent safety training is highly valued.

* Experience in site construction and site development work is an advantage.

* Familiarity with construction supervision and construction management best practices.

* Proven ability to maintain strong subcontractor relationships and foster a collaborative jobsite culture.

* Comfort working within a structured environment that emphasizes clear expectations, systems, and field controls.

* Track record of maintaining quality control while meeting aggressive schedules.
