HEAVY CIVIL SUPERINTENDENT

Superintendents are responsible for the daily operations of a construction site from planning projects to overseeing project completion. Overseeing the means and methods, staffing, material and equipment needs. Duties vary depending on the type of construction each business conducts, but general tasks include scheduling work to proceed according to a strict timeline, conducting audits and checks to ensure that work corresponds with blueprints or client requests, and monitoring safety and compliance.

General

Job Duties of a Superintendent:
  • Coordinate scheduling of subcontractors, consultants, inspectors and vendors to complete each project on time
  • Monitor work and materials to ensure quality control standards are met at various stages of the project
  • Communicate with the project team and support each subcontractor to execute his job duties effectively and efficiently
  • Perform inspections or schedule inspectors to meet the varying safety and compliance regulations of each job location
  • Participate in the management of daily operational issues, including maintaining schedules, planning and resource coordination, identifying and improving procedures, project staffing and ongoing project support including personnel, equipment, and materials
  • Plan and conduct weekly field meetings to update field staff on current project, staffing and equipment moves
  • Communicate effective to project management team, schedules, budget, and look-a
    -heads
  • Maintain a written project documentation to include log of visitors, job actions performed, materials expended, and problems resolved on the job site
  • Identify and resolve problems and conflicts, organizing meetings and cooperating with team members in various roles as necessary
  • Set an example in keeping the project organized and clean, including meeting all safety standards, waste disposal and environmental protection
  • Other Duties as Assigned
Job Skills and

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 years
    in a Superintendent capacity
    Required
  • Bachelor's degree preferred but not required
  • Relevant Experience
    - Large Site, Large Utility Heavy Civil Infrastructure Projects Required
  • Strong Understanding and Implementation of Means and Methods
  • Ability to read, comprehend and build out construction drawings, specifications, architectural drawings, and legal documentation
  • Strong ability to manage multiple priorities and potential multiple projects
  • Demonstrated and proven leadership ability
  • Basic knowledge of software programs, such as Heavy Job, Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint, Procore
  • Excellent ability to communicate and write reports and professional correspondence to vendors, clients, subcontractors etc.
  • Excellent reading comprehension for technical documents, such as safety regulations, assembly and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Excellent verbal communications skills, especially when addressing customers, clients or project meetings
  • Quality Control of the project to identify non-compliance with regulations or standards and the ability to suggest solutions for deficiencies or problems
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on the telephone
