Position: Assistant Director of Graphic Design (HR Title: Graphic Designer I)

Southern Methodist University’s Athletics team is seeking an on-campus, in-person Assistant Director of Graphic Design to strengthen SMU athletics branding through thoughtful visual storytelling. In this role, you will help develop recruiting graphics, campaign assets, identity materials, and a range of print and digital deliverables, with additional support for photography and game day coverage as needed.

What you’ll do
  • Design creative, visually compelling graphics for internal and external communications that help elevate athletics programs, student-athletes, and departmental initiatives.
  • Partner with athletics teams, coaches, and campus stakeholders to produce visual assets that support promotion of programs, events, student-athletes, and departmental priorities.
  • Provide photography support for recruiting, marketing, and communications across the athletics department by capturing dynamic imagery aligned with a consistent visual identity.
  • Assist with home game day coverage, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Travel as needed for game day and championship coverage (up to 25% of the time
    ).
Minimum qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required
    .
  • 1 year of professional experience in graphic design required.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate across the University and build effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify and analyze issues and devise solutions.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills.
  • Strong typography, layout, and branding skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite platforms including Photoshop and Lightroom is essential.
  • Sit for long periods of time.
Preferred qualifications
  • A degree in graphic design or a related field.
  • Experience working with a college or professional athletics department.
  • A working knowledge of After Effects
    , Illustrator
    , and/or In Design .
