Under general supervision of a Dentist in a practice of care setting, assists the dentist in providing dental treatment and follows and supports the CARE model for patient experience.
Responsibilities- Responsible for regular maintenance of high‑speed and low‑speed handpieces.
- Collects and records patient health histories.
- Patient management during dental procedures; monitors patients when N20 is being used.
- Instrument transfer in 4‑handed dentistry while following sterile/OSHA procedures.
- Perform dental procedure isolation techniques.
- Prepares dental materials, cements, composite, impression materials, etc.
- Ensures operatory is set up and broken down properly.
- Conducts maintenance of all equipment; sterilizers, ultrasonic, flush lines, clean/replace traps.
- Scans reception room for patients.
- Assumes responsibility for the upkeep of the dental operatory and equipment.
- Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of assigned operatory and assigned equipment.
- Maintains a stocked and clean operatory; assists in updating and maintaining patient dental records to include perio charting as directed.
- Prevention and management of dental medical emergencies.
- Inventory control and management.
- Ensures all instruments are cleaned and sterilized/disinfected to meet OSHA, CDC, and ADA standards.
- Ensures the dental treatment room is properly disinfected.
- Explains post‑operative care.
- Completes all other dental assistant duties as allowed by TSBE.
- Assists Lead Dental Assistant with duties assigned when they are absent.
- Assists with Front Desk duties as assigned.
- Attends and participates in team meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.

- High School Diploma or GED.
- Certification in Dental Assisting as required by the state.
- Dental Assistant License as required by state.
- Current CPR, BLS or PALS required or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
- Radiology certified as required by the state.
- Maintain Continuing Education (CE) as required by the state.
- Nitrous certificate preferred.
- Pit and fissure sealant certificate, and coronal polish certificate required.
- Work involves considerable exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, unpleasant odors, and loud noises.
- Moderate physical activity; requires handling average‑weight objects up to 15‑20 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than 4 hours per day. Sitting for extended periods of time.
- Will work with blood or blood‑borne pathogens and will require OSHA training.
- The work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
