Position: Dental Assistant I Job – Dallas, TX

General Description

Under general supervision of a Dentist in a practice of care setting, assists the dentist in providing dental treatment and follows and supports the CARE model for patient experience.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for regular maintenance of high‑speed and low‑speed handpieces.
  • Collects and records patient health histories.
  • Patient management during dental procedures; monitors patients when N20 is being used.
  • Instrument transfer in 4‑handed dentistry while following sterile/OSHA procedures.
  • Perform dental procedure isolation techniques.
  • Prepares dental materials, cements, composite, impression materials, etc.
  • Ensures operatory is set up and broken down properly.
  • Conducts maintenance of all equipment; sterilizers, ultrasonic, flush lines, clean/replace traps.
  • Scans reception room for patients.
  • Assumes responsibility for the upkeep of the dental operatory and equipment.
  • Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of assigned operatory and assigned equipment.
  • Maintains a stocked and clean operatory; assists in updating and maintaining patient dental records to include perio charting as directed.
  • Prevention and management of dental medical emergencies.
  • Inventory control and management.
  • Ensures all instruments are cleaned and sterilized/disinfected to meet OSHA, CDC, and ADA standards.
  • Ensures the dental treatment room is properly disinfected.
  • Explains post‑operative care.
  • Completes all other dental assistant duties as allowed by TSBE.
  • Assists Lead Dental Assistant with duties assigned when they are absent.
  • Assists with Front Desk duties as assigned.
  • Attends and participates in team meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Certification in Dental Assisting as required by the state.
  • Dental Assistant License as required by state.
  • Current CPR, BLS or PALS required or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Radiology certified as required by the state.
  • Maintain Continuing Education (CE) as required by the state.
  • Nitrous certificate preferred.
  • Pit and fissure sealant certificate, and coronal polish certificate required.
  • Work involves considerable exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, unpleasant odors, and loud noises.
  • Moderate physical activity; requires handling average‑weight objects up to 15‑20 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than 4 hours per day. Sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Will work with blood or blood‑borne pathogens and will require OSHA training.
  • The work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
