Job Description
Urban Planning and Design Manager – AECOM. A visionary leader with extensive experience in large‑scale planning, infrastructure, and development projects is sought to manage complex projects across the United States. The role is based in Austin or Dallas, Texas;
Chicago, Illinois;
New Orleans, Louisiana; or Phoenix, Arizona.
Lead the delivery of complex planning and design infrastructure projects in large urbanized areas, managing multidisciplinary internal and external teams, shaping project vision, and serving as a key liaison among design teams, municipal leaders, and the communities we serve.
- Manage one or more moderately complex projects and clients, involving regional geographic footprints or additional complexities such as strategy, economics, infrastructure, environmental protection, or due diligence.
- Oversee all project phases from inception through close‑out.
- Work largely independently, receiving basic instruction on objectives and complex features.
- Receive technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans.
- Supervise experienced urban designers, planners, landscape architects, engineers, and supporting project administration, controls, scheduling, cost control, estimating, and procurement staff.
Minimum Requirements:
- BA/BS + 10 years of experience or equivalent, with 2 years of leadership experience.
- Professional licensure.
- Master’s degree in landscape architecture or urban design.
- 12 years of relevant professional urban planning or design experience.
- 3+ years of applicable design leadership and/or project management experience.
- Collaborator & Integrator.
- Project leadership experience.
- Familiarity with business development activities such as marketing, proposals, and client development.
- Excellent internal and external communication of design vision.
- Excellent written communication skills.
