Staff Civil Designer – Open Roads / Civil 3D
- Location: Dallas, TX or Austin, TX
- Duration: 12-Month Contract-to-Hire
- Work Arrangement: Local candidates preferred
JOB DESCRIPTION
We are seeking an experienced Staff Civil Designer to support multidisciplinary engineering teams on transportation, infrastructure, and electrical projects. The ideal candidate will have strong hands‑on experience with Open Roads Designer (ORD), Open Bridge Modeler/Designer (OBM), Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and/or Micro Station
, along with the ability to independently develop detailed design and construction documentation.
This is a 12-month Contract-to-Hire opportunity, and the manager is open to candidates located in either Dallas, TX or Austin, TX
.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, produce, and modify detailed design drawings and construction documents using Open Roads Designer (ORD), Open Bridge Designer (OBM), and Civil 3D
. - Interpret engineering sketches, markups, and design concepts to independently generate complete and accurate drawing packages.
- Prepare and revise plan sets, profiles, details, and plot drawings for design submittals and construction documentation.
- Apply company, client, and industry CAD standards to ensure consistency and quality across deliverables.
- Coordinate with engineers, designers, and other disciplines to integrate project designs.
- Maintain CAD standards, templates, and detail libraries to improve production efficiency.
- Identify design conflicts or inconsistencies and recommend practical technical solutions.
- Perform quality control reviews of drawings for completeness, accuracy, and compliance.
- Incorporate redlines, field markups, and as‑built documentation updates.
- Support continuous improvement of CAD workflows, standards, and best practices.
- Manage multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining strong attention to detail.
- Provide technical guidance and support to junior drafters or team members as needed.
- Support compliance with company policies, safety standards, and project requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Drafting Technology or related field + 7 years of related experience
, OR - Associate degree + 8 years of related experience
, OR - 9 years of progressive detailing and design experience
. - Expert‑level proficiency with design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Micro Station, and Excel
. - Strong knowledge of design, calculations, and design systems.
- Strong understanding of civil design principles and practices.
- Ability to operate discipline‑specific design software to execute production tasks.
- Experience working collaboratively with Project Managers, Engineers, Designers, and multidisciplinary project teams
. - Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and attention‑to‑detail skills.
