Position: Japan-in-a-Suitcase Presenter

Position Type: Paid, part-time contract

Compensation: Starting at $17/hour or commensurate with experience, including travel time, with opportunities for rate increases based on experience and program needs.

About JASDFW

The Japan-America Society of Dallas/Fort Worth is a non‑profit organization that fosters friendship, understanding, and engagement between the people of Japan and the U.S. through cultural, educational, business, and community programs. Our Japan-in-a-Suitcase program brings Japanese culture directly into schools and community groups.

Position Overview

The Japan-in-a-Suitcase Presenter is a bilingual (Japanese & English) cultural educator who delivers interactive, hands‑on presentations for youth and young adults offered free to many schools in the Dallas and north Dallas region. Presenters travel to schools, libraries, and community venues with program materials, sharing stories, activities, and cultural insights from Japan.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead Japan-in-a-Suitcase presentations for students and community groups
  • Adapt content for different ages, group sizes, and educator goals
  • Travel locally with program materials
  • Attend required training sessions and complete preparation prior to presentations
  • Represent JASDFW at community events, festivals, and other programs as needed
Requirements
  • Fluent in Japanese and English
  • Comfortable working with children and young adults
  • Strong presentation and communication skills
  • Ability to travel locally in the DFW area
  • Willingness to attend required training sessions and prepare for presentations
  • Passion and knowledge for Japanese culture and cross‑cultural education
  • Background in Japanese traditional practices (e.g., calligraphy, tea ceremony, ikebana) is a plus.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Candidates without a work visa are welcome to apply as volunteers.
Compensation & Schedule
  • Starting at $17/hour or commensurate with experience (includes travel)
  • Rate may increase based on experience and program needs
  • Flexible, part‑time schedule with opportunities to work evenings or weekends for special events
