Position Summary
The Classroom Teacher (Grades K 12) is responsible for delivering high-quality, standards-based instruction aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and ensuring compliance with all applicable Texas Education Agency (TEA) regulations, State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) standards, and federal laws. The Teacher of Record is accountable for student academic growth, instructional planning, classroom management, assessment practices, documentation compliance, and professional responsibilities as required by state law and local policy.
Required Qualifications
In accordance with TEA and SBEC regulations, teachers must:
- Hold a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
- Possess a valid Texas teaching certificate appropriate for grade level and subject assignment
- Demonstrate subject-matter competency as defined by Texas law
- Meet "Highly Qualified" standards as applicable
- Hold ESL certification or meet district requirements for serving Emergent Bilingual students
- Hold appropriate certification for Special Education, Bilingual, Gifted & Talented, CTE, or other specialized assignments if applicable
- Complete fingerprinting and criminal history background requirements
- Maintain all SBEC certification and continuing professional education (CPE) requirements
1. Instructional Planning & TEKS Alignment
- Develop and implement lesson plans aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)
- Clearly identify measurable learning objectives tied to grade-level standards
- Use vertical alignment practices to ensure readiness for the next grade level
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners (Special Education, 504, Emergent Bilingual, GT)
- Integrate literacy and critical thinking skills across content areas
- Utilize research-based instructional strategies appropriate to student developmental levels (elementary, junior high, high school)
- Administer formative and summative assessments aligned to TEKS
- Prepare students for STAAR and other state-mandated assessments as applicable
- Analyze assessment data to inform instruction and interventions
- Monitor and document student mastery of standards
- Maintain accurate and timely grade records in accordance with district policies
- Provide intervention and enrichment support within MTSS/RTI frameworks
- Establish and maintain a structured, safe, and positive learning environment
- Implement campus and district discipline policies consistently
- Promote social-emotional learning and character development
- Supervise students during instructional and non-instructional times as assigned
- Maintain compliance with campus safety and emergency procedures
- Maintain required documentation for IEPs, 504 Plans, LPAC, and other student services
- Implement accommodations and modifications as required by law
- Participate in ARD, 504, LPAC, MTSS, and other required meetings
- Protect student confidentiality in accordance with FERPA
- Complete all required TEA-mandated trainings
- Submit attendance, grades, and reports in accordance with district timelines
- Maintain ongoing communication with parents/guardians regarding academic progress
- Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
- Collaborate with instructional coaches, administrators, and support staff
- Contribute to campus improvement planning and school-wide initiatives
- Maintain professional relationships with students, families, and colleagues
- Adhere to the Texas Educators' Code of Ethics
- Maintain certification and complete required continuing professional education (CPE) hours
- Participate in district and campus professional development
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance
- Support extracurricular activities and campus events as assigned
